I am not able to play the game because it says I need to update the game. I select update then it take me to the App Store where my only option is to open the game. I am stuck in this loop. Unless this is fixed I am not going to be able to complete the bunker for the track or even play the game.

Curious if anyone else has this issue and if a delete reload would resolve?

Delete the app, re-install and log back in on the pause menu on the first track. It has resolved this sort of issue in the past.
