Been playing six months now, and I just don't get it.
I come across so many players on PS4 that will counter every gaurd break I toss out.

Yet when I get tossed one, I can't catch the counter no matter how early, or late, wether I tap square once, a few times, hold it.

Almost NEVER do I not end up eating the heavy or taking a high dive.

When I practice in the tutorial, sure it works great when I hit it as soon as I see the red icon... great...

Yet online... NEVER works.

Can anyone give me anything useful that might help besides...

Don't feel bad, ubisoft ****ed this game good. CGB window is soooo ****ing ridiculously small now, you have to hit the GB button as soon as your opponent starts animation. There's no way to see it coming and react to it. They need to put it back to beta settings.

My friend suggested I changed controller setups so I changed it to setup two (and since I am on Xbox) that moved GB from X to Right Stick, which helped me a lot.

Also, the reason you can't hit it online but you can in training is because you're probably expecting it in training
