    cgb

i just started and it seems really easy i was going a bit too early at first. my suggestion is to not panic and click too soon.

I had a lot of trouble doing cgb for months after the game came out as well until it finally clicked for me. there are two ways i can recognize the exact moment to cgb. If your more sensitive to audio cues then there is a sort of tap sound as the enemy grabs you, you want to push the button right when you hear that tap so it instead becomes more of a tap-tap sound.
The second way is easier ro recognize visually and is the way i avoid more than half of all grab attempts. Basically you need to wait for the enemy to make contact with your character. You have maybe half a second of wiggle room from the instant your character is stunned. If you mess up and go just split second before they physically contact your body you can still cgb but its difficult to keep yourself from twitching wrong under that burst of stress. Even under slightly laggy situations this is a reliable moment to look for and will up your game tremendously once you get consistent at recognizing the moment of contact

    Okay, then my question is...

This tap sound, is it a softer, subtle sound just before the actual body slam sound of the GB, or are we just talking about one actual sound.

And visually, then I'm just not quick enough and need to try remapping my square button to L2 again.
Because, I always wait for the body slam.

And what platform are you guys on?
    I'm PS4.

Okay, I think going back to practice I again might know what my problem is that I never do online.

Offline, the most consistent way is to hold the counter button as soon as you see the shield.
I know there is the lag factor and is probably why online you want to wait for the contact.
Offline it's hit or miss that way.

But, I think my problem may have always been that I would only quickly tap the button as fast as I could on contact, or sometimes rapidly.

One person earlier in this thread said tapping or holding shouldn't make a difference, so I never really tried holding it online, but here's to hoping he's wrong.

I'll make a habit of holding it and hope that's the difference for me.

Nope, not a bit of difference.
Only thing I can think maybe now is that because I have a 180 mbps connection and a wired Nacon controller is that maybe I don't have the average lag.

So maybe I have to get it down before the body hits like I do offline.
I'll have to try and see.

Lol yup, the very first time I anticipated one and hit it before the contact, I countered.

Only took me over six months to figure it out.
Between my high speed connection and wired controller, I have to get it first.
God, that means I have to stare for the icon, because once the body hits, it's too late for me.

Well, I realized an even better way to map my Nacon controller to be able to react faster.

So my thumb doesn't even have to leave the stick while I'm trying to anticipate blocking at the same time, I assign the GB to the R3 stick punch.

    Think this could help.

Oh, and now it's even working when I hear the hit too.
I just for the life of me couldn't move my thumb from the stick to the squaure button in time.
    Man that's a short window.
But think with remapping I should finally get good at this.

Good to hear you're getting the hang of it. It was a big problem for me too, but I did advanced practice for like half an hour straight and drilled the sound cue into my brain. What also helped was knowing that some situations make CBG impossible, like getting grabbed while dodging or after being parried.
