8.2 feedback: Devs got this one right.
Im the type of player who will be jumping into ranked play, and hopefully playing it at a decently high level. Ive been playing since the start with this in mind. Im well into prestige 1 now, and had spread around learning all the classes and taking time to study the maps. The thermal goggles issue was the biggest balance issue facing the game out of the gate. Not only was it unbalanced, but it was forcing everyone to run it to remain competitive. To not run it meant you put yourself at a competitive disadvantage, even if you maybe wish you could have run something else. I was running thermals on every class except some of the supports, because at close, mid, or long range, you had to assume the enemy was running thermals, and if they are running it and I am not, Im automatically at a disadvantage. When I saw the first announcment on the change I said to myself "Ok, well this will fix the most egregious balance problem witch is a sniper on thermals, but thermals will still demand a monopoly at the short and mid range" I was gonna call it a good step in the right direction. Im really glad to see Ubi has changed their mind on this, and have elected to isolate the perk into the support class and only when flying a drone. I think this is exactly what needed to happen. I put real thought into this issue as I was playing, and I could not come up with any way to keep thermals available to every class without it demanding a monopoly on any class where its range remained effective. The swap with quick hands is a good one imo. This will change how the game plays for a lot of us who have been hammering it since release. I literally was spending majority of my playtime looking through thermal vision, and not because i really wanted to, but because I knew i had to in order to be competitive. Im excited at the prospect of more diversity coming to my class builds, and to the games i play.
My only beef is I was really hoping this change would land prior to the weekend. I guess a couple more days of looking through thermals...
you get a +1 from me on this one Ubi. I think it was something that kinda had to happen, and had you stuck with the original plan you would have had to revisit this issue againI think.
