Hello, I'm awere that the devs have received lots of feedback on HLs gameplay, how he feels weak etc. I just want to add my 2 cents on how I think he should be adjusted.
I'd rather see him as a high damage character who is also able to trade some hits than see him as a heavy with poor offensive options.
- I think that his heavies should receive a damage buff to make sense swing that huge sword.
- Defensive top heavy damage increased to 45, side heavies to 40. Celtic curse to 35. Make celtic curse feintable.
- All offensive heavies should do 35 damage.
- Damage reduction when HA is active. This should make him able to trade more hit. No need to buff his health.
- HA activate at the same speed as Warlords heavies. Currently is not viable to trade hits with his HA.
- His CC should activate much sooner. Currently is not possible to use it against lights on reaction and against heavies you can be punished since it's a parry bait.
- Stamina cost/pool rework adjustment. He should be able to do more than one of his mixupus without ending nearly oos.
- Transition to OS should be faster and less clunky.
- Caber toss needs HA. This move should be strong, righ now it'seasily avoided.
- Improve caber toss tracking. Not really sure about this but it seems that any character can avoid the kick/caber toss mixup by dodging early backwards diagonally ?
- Increase sprint speed. It's really boring to move so slowly in Dominion.
- Hit box corrections. Huge swings kill only one minion, etc. Mainly in the sprint attack I think.
- Improve his recovery times? Not sure about the values tho.
- Make him scream something cool during his emotes. He is a Scott warrior who fights for freedom. Currently he only grumbles, mainly when changing guard. Please change that because makes him look like someone with mental issues.
- Chains rework? The light+ light chain is useless for instance and gives the enemy a free gb on block
- He should always get a light out of any parry. This would increase his mixup potential and reward him more for parrying.
That's all I can think of right now. Just to finish, I think he should be a viable mixuper bully. Don't think he needs a heavy after GB for instance. He can be good and enjoyable having a different playstyle. Overall I think the Scotsman is a great concept, he just need some adjustments. Thanks.
•Celtic curce cancelable
•celtic curse cancel into offensive
•offensive light takes extremelynto much stamina
•every move takes to much stamina
•the damage output is to low
•give him a heavy on gb or a parry (but make gb after a parry unconfirmed)
•highlander cant connect many of its opener moves because hes succeptible to a GB for a longer perioud than other.
•make the tranzition from defensive to offensive form a little faster
- Celtic Curse Cancel into Offensive Stance would would be quite nice to see. Maybe even overpowered as for now everybody concentrates on blocking top and parrying the side attacks. But anyway any cancel here would be welcome and a softfeint into whatever would be a great addition. IOriginally Posted by Gemoroda Go to original post
- Damage output is a bit too low I agree. The offensive lights should at least get a boost. Other than that a slight buff could be useful and fitting
- Stamina Consumption is too heavy. True. Especially OF lights are way too consuming - also true. I would suggest to either increase his stamina a lot or decrease the costs of a lot of moves (maybe some of both - tha's up to you)
->>I also highly suggest to look into his stamina recovery while he is OOS. It is so immensely terrible slow (slower than on other characters) that opponents can have their way with him much longer than on most other characters. When I play with him it annoys me so much to have him constantly out of breath, grunting and not getting back to form in time when you'd expect him (based on experiences with other characters) to be ready again.
->> If you don't drastically decrease the stamina costs of the OF lights, give them maybe special proberties. Like for example blinding like Raider's stomp. Of course that would be difficult to justify for the side ones but maybe top would be enough since that one is the slowest of all? Again, just an idea.
->> make the highlander more responsive. His movement is so clunky and not responsive. At the moment he and his slow responses are no match for any assassin (and of course other faster classes). And it is so frustrating to try to react on some quick attacks and getting punished for that but after that getting even more punished since the character cannot recover fast enough to put up a defence or maybe is still stuck in the first reaction (which by no means is justified if you compare the pretty much alike damage output from PK and Highlander for example while)
Like Gemoroda said already that he is open to a GB on his heavies and even on Celtic Curse. He is even less responsive while OOS. Pretty hard to survive several OOS punish attempts during this tim (dodging a shoulderbash comes to mind for example).
->> A bit more HP
->> A bit more range on OF Lights
->> A bit more Hyperarmor
->> better tools to deal with Side dodgers in OF. Better tracking or maybe Hyper Armor on Caber Toss.
->> Sidedodge Attack in OF
->> Confirmed OF Heavy on a Parry. Works often but not always. Seems to be guaranteed on lights atm
->> Make his zone useful. At least it should be tweaked in terms of how you are able to control it to clear minions. at the moment it seems to have its own will sometimes and going ways never imagined. But in general I would like to see that his Zone can actually be used in fights. It is outright terrible atm and cannot even help you in a Xv1 situation. IF you made it unparriable that would help a lot to get some space (and it would fit the image of the Highlander in general). I think you since the changes during PTS 2 were promoting to make attacks in revenge unparriable that you had this in mind while creating it. And on release everybody knew that the Highlander was pretty much designed for a different build of the game (also to be noticed due to his lack in normal punishes after a GB). However IF you do that you would also need to look at the startup. It is somewhat fast and could be abused in 1v1 situations due to the similarity of the sideheavy.
Anyway the Highlander needs something to deal with mob situations. Currently he is an easy target which he shouldn't be considering the giant sword that he swings and how it should be able to keep enemies at bay.
->> Tweak his attack reach and hit registery. A lot of attacks won't register which is also why he is terrible in fending of mobs.
->> tweak his GB range. It is still quite buggy at times it seems or just pathetically low. Since he is not very responsive going for a GB and failing it due to some mini pixels of distance this is a death sentence pretty much and you have thrown the match.
->> The light+ light (heavy) chain can be used with a bit of spacing but the second light should not provide a free GB on block I agree
->> Increase sprint speed and please also provide a different running animation like requested in a different thread.
->> I like the suggestion with the emotes. He is just grunting most of the time and also starting with a very very similar animation which is also not good for emote spamming (just on a side note)
->> Increase OF Emote speed again. It is not as (quickly) spammable as before, hence less fun
->> Canceling OF costs stamina. Just why? He needs to be able to defend himself if he is low on stamina and not get into OOS just because he canceled his OF.
I particularly dont think he needs more HP if his damage is increased like I suggested.. Maybe some damage reduction while HA is active would be welcomed. In my opinion the enhanced lights are also OK, they cannot be used so effectively right now due to the high usage of stamina by kick/caber toss mix up. Maybe just a little adjustment in the stamina consumption too.
Another thing I forgot to mention in the original post: you cannot use the CC immediately after changing guard, which makes it impossible to use it against lights on reaction,
And his heavies should indeed be considered long range attacks. Look at the size of his sword!
Thanks for that.Originally Posted by FredEx919 Go to original post
Agreed. I believe he was intended to be a berserk style character that excels at trading damage with opponents in a high-risk-high-reward playstyle. However, due to his lack of a large health pool (unlike shugoki, who uses a similar playstyle) and lack of high damage moves with hyper armor (See: Berzerker) he falls flat of the intended goal.Originally Posted by Krobs_89 Go to original post
He is, however, one of the most fun characters to play despite this fact simply because his moveset is incredible and requires a very high skill level to truly master.
I don't think Celtic Curse should be feintable though. Giving it that property would make the move incredibly strong as it's high primary opener into offensive stance. Allowing it to be both feinted or soft feinted into another direction is too powerful, in my opinion.
His Caber Toss feels sluggish unless you use it from either a kick or an offensive heavy.
His damage needs to be increased on his heavies specifically. Defensive side heavies should do 45 damage and defensive top heavies should do at least 55. Offensive heavies should do 40 damage (since they're unblockable they should do less). His light attacks don't need any type of buff, as their main purpose is to set up for offensive stance attacks or for mixups.
-Rework stamina. Either increase pool or reduce usage
-1 more bar of heatlh
-improve reaction times. as it stands even with 2 players attacking you at once, you can get "stun locked" solely due to recovery times being so slow
-increased damage output. the "biggest sword ever wielded on the battlefield" does the same damage as the wardens sword
-HA on defensive heavies NEEDS to occur earlier. as it stands the wind up is slow enough to almost guarantee an interrupt
-CGB timing. it seems as though most GBs on HL are guarenteed, if not then the timing is so off the window to counter is too small
Recap
-EVRYTHING is parryable. all his attacks are so slow nearly everything can be easily reactable/counterable. For having such risky attacks, there needs to be an offset. the Unblockables are nice, but only in a gank situation. 1v1 HL is borderline useless against any class with a somewhat skilled player. God help you if its a highly skilled player. By making all or even any of these changes it would make him more viable in more situations. I know he is a hard class, technical fighter. but im starting to think all that means is he is broken and no one knows how to fix him
Best adjustments in my opinion are:
Because of his (boh) slow speed, faster armour on heavies.
Because of its slow speed, and predictability, cancel the celtic curse (not the sides, just the top) into offensive forme that can initiate a kick.
And finaly, smaller stamina consumption on OF lights. The rest is the perfrct.

I dont know witch one but when i play highlander i allways make sure no matter what other stats i chose that exhaustion recovery, stamina regen and most importantly stamina consumption as high as possible. And it solved the stamina problems on everithing but the OF lights
that only works in 4v4 modes..Originally Posted by Gemoroda Go to original post
in duels you always suffer from being constantly out of stamina. But apart from that, yes, this is also my way to go. I also take the first feat for faster regen.
And additional point to what is to improve:
His basic feint game is outright terrible. Side heavies especially get my blood rushing in disgust. They have so ****ing much windup, that you most often get hit during the feint attempt (he has to do all his stepping his windup with the sword and then a little bit of striking..) and his recovery after canceling seems also be quite bad so actually reacting towards whatever comes next seems to be a problem too
