Not sure how thermal made it past game testing. I get 6 kills in a single round running around Coca Farm with thermals as a Pointman, entirely unassisted by allies, running solo. Definitely a stealthy, tactical PVP mode. Check it out.
Combat starts around 15 seconds in.

Thanks for that and I believe all of us here are aware. Personally, I still think the gameplay would be better without it and I hope at least they'll give as an option / game mode (with public matchmaking) where we can disable things like this. ....but then again, I'm more of a minimalist when it comes to these things (i.e. basic combat/tactics without all the gadgetry & aids).
That's awesome to hear, threedouces! (Nothing against those other games, of courseOriginally Posted by threedouces Go to original post) The team worked incredibly hard to get Ghost War just right, so feedback like this really does mean a great deal to everyone involved. What have you been enjoying most about it if you don't mind my asking?
Hey there
I would also really apreciate a hardcore mode, or whatever it takes, to play this game without thermal vision.
Sneaking in those dense forests and jungles, playing tactical, finding new great spots etc... its all so much fun, that I actually canceled my Destiny2 preorder. But at the moment i kinda regret the choice, since i found out about this thermal vision :/ Please just fix it and I guess this will be one of the best PvP experiences 2017!
I have said this in other posts but the main reason people want thermal to stay in the game is to hunt down campers in the woods(the real reason is it's a crutch for long range players, I'm not judging I use it to because you kinda have to when everyone else is), I'd like to propose a system where in order to force a draw you have to be within a certain range of the recon tower, like 150-200 meters. This way people can decide to hide in the woods and survive in they want but they won't force a draw. This also makes he recon tower that much more important to control. I also think the thermal perk should be a support only perk (with highly reduced range if a perk) or remove it completely and create a new support class with a thermal drone and/or binoculars. This would make the new support more of a spotter for snipers instead of snipers just hiding and watching for the glowing blue dot in the distance. This encourages teamwork, co-operation and communication, much more tactical in my opinion. At the very least put a perk in that masks your thermal signature and perhaps make your movement quieter, this is a stealth game, let us be stealthy..
Alternatively you could create a predator game mode where one or two people have thermal vision against 4-6 without it. Maybe they have to collect something and the thermal predators have to prevent it, be creative.
Hey again Ubi-ludex:
It's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes this PVP so fun. I think part of it is that every game is different- two matches on the same map with the same group of players can turn out entirely different than eachother, because the strategies you can use can vary so much. This can't really be said of a lot of other shooter games. This keeps it interesting, and I think it keeps a lot of players (including me) playing for hours at a time, because it doesn't get stale (you just get tired haha).
Another reason I think might be that it's tactical for every level of player- even if you aren't very good at the game, if you have a team you can do well anyway. I've added at least 10 people to my friends list in the last week or so, and half of them aren't even that good- but as a team we get an astounding number of wins (I swear I've had a win streak of at least 10, maybe even 15 at some point with one group). This can't really be said for Battlefield 1- there's just too many damn people playing in the same match to get anything tactical done really. Call of Duty, unless you're at a very high level isn't really tactical either, you mostly just run n' gun around the map. Halo 5 is a bit better in this regard, but one weak player usually ruins a game.
Also I'd like to say why I think you guys are getting so much "do this, do that, get rid of thermal, etc." is because the base of the PVP is so well done, we can all imagine how many different awesome things you could do with it. I think that's also why people are losing their minds so much over the thermal- it really takes away from a lot of the awesome parts of the game- the stealth and tactics kinda go out the door a bit when you can run n' gun around the map and do quite well. My post that started this thread was a bit hyperbolic, and probably comes off a little worse than I intended haha- the stealth and tactics aren't gone of course, but I think it's certainly been reduced.
Anyway, overall I've had a ton of fun, so props to you guys for coming up with this, because it's honestly a fantastic PVP mode.
