Well another invisible water map:

If you have to have the mod installed for the mod objects to show, you should NOT publish the map at all. But it is not up to me. I use a private mod, but you do not need the mod to play it. Some items in Fino's mod will cause the game to crash, others just don't show or partially show(some AI are half invisible) If you are going to use a mod, you better read all the info about what works and what doesn't.
Relax, no one blames You for those mod depending maps but those offenders should be keelhauled for every offense.Originally Posted by AKAFootloose Go to original post
AKAFootloose IMO correctly advises against publishing a map that's made with a game mod. A game mod requires the game to be running the same mod as the map was developed on.
You know, I really think the map maker might be clueless that this issue is happening at all; the map works on their (modded) game, so they assume it will work with all players. Also, since it's submitted as a 'MJ2' entry, it will be disqualified for using third-party mods. Probably not what the creator had in mind, unless he just used the MJ2 tag to reach more players.
My upcoming public mod will be an editor mod instead. Like the private mod referenced by AKAFootloose, it is aimed to only feature modifications that work with the vanilla game, without requiring a mod to be installed.
TheLazyMapper just published a map that was built with an early version of this mod. Check out some of the mods on YouTube.
All good Steve but a little hard to believe the map dev has no clue about his issue.Originally Posted by Steve64b Go to original post
Anyway, Me thinks there is a good place to place a mod dependency warning right here like 1 shot kill / needs modxx installed - as a general suggestion nothing to do with this particular map.

Well, you'd be surprised.Originally Posted by Butcherbird59 Go to original post
This other creator named 'frenchie1954' published various maps, including MJ2 maps. Where other modded maps sometimes only have some minor graphical issues, his MJ2-ROAD TO FREEDOM map blatantly crashes the game simply because it uses a Cessna asset not part of the vanilla game.
That map currently has 177 plays & 1 favorite. I assume the creator was the only one who favorited it & that the majority of the 177 'plays' have resulted in game crashes, as the game counts a successfully downloaded map as a 'play', regardless whether it loaded fine in the FC4 game.
So, if creators were aware of this game breaking problem with maps, and knew that maps made with a mod have no place in the MJ2 contest in the first place, why bother uploading a broken map especially if it only has just 1 'special' object in it? The most obvious answer is ignorance.![]()
Okay, Steve, the whole story boils down to not permitting modded map uploads but unfortunately there is no such safeguard in place hence surprises.
MJ2 contest tells me nothing but I don't really have to know.
Every map I play tells me a lot about the psychology of the map maker - some devs just want to smash the player/gamer others want you to get lost in the map and lastly those devs who like to steamroll the player by placing a "million" enemies at certain points... that all is where the map/game balance Fails big time
