About the weather and hour playing your map

    hello guys

After having read lot of interesting things about editing maps, After having done good and bad things on my own maps, one question is still here :

How do you do to have an foggy ambiance by mixing "ambient light " (lumière d'ambiance on my french ps3 menu) and hour of day ?

I tried with fog, and high mountain but it's appears that fog doesn't work or not really perceptible way. Looks like "high mountain light" brings more fog (and loss of depth of field - what I actually want) than fog light itself.

More of all, when I turn the time from early morning to late in the night, it seems to be less efficent.

To have ambient like Devil in the swamp -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WGFwY6mOcQ or like in foggy Verdun -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nmn4uJBOZkw

what is the ideal setting ?

I also tried with "orange sky light" a very powerful ambient light but only for desert maps or post-apo ones, in my sens, don't you think so ?!

Always in search to create more and more "realistic" maps, I'm waiting for a big numbers of tips by experienced map editors

    Thanks to everyone

There is a lot to getting the best fog. To start with, "Show Fog" in the Editor Settings has no effect for when you PLAY the map. It only turns on or off fog while working in the editor, just like show water. What the fog looks like depends more on what your in-game video settings are. The best fog is with Ultra Graphics with "Godrays" set to Volumetric. Hazy or High Mountain get the best fog at just before sunrise or right after sundown. Time of day makes a big difference. You just have to try different things to find the effect you're after. One more thing, Test from the GAME, not the editor. From the Game Menu, select Map Editor\All My Maps\map name then select "PLAY". Do not select "Open in Editor"

Hi sunk83 high mountain is the only lighting worth using, except when making say an afghan map. the other two settings are complete garbage imo. some examples below of high mountain and orange sky i used on xb1.
My mech scene - high mountain

My mech scene - high mountain

My kandahar afghan scene - orange sky

My kabul city afghanistan scene - orange sky

    Thank you guys !

I've downlaoded maps from servers with fog effects and I learned and saw what you told me in your answers.
I alao watched how a good village outpost structure has to be with the map called "Nepalla". Dl the map aond opend it in editor map just to see how the creator has placed his objects on the map, Ai's and outpost alarms.
To be short, DL maps is the best way to learn how " editor masters" work in the shadows...

PS : Is it normal that I can't find neither AKA Footloose nor AW LOST SOLDIER on ps3 servers ? Maybe you play on other consoles ?

    Good night guys
