1400 hours experience, rant in the nicest way possible
I want to say first that I am a long time Siege and Rainbow Six fan, and have been playing since the beta. I have 800 hours of siege on PC and over 600 on PS4 before I transferred.I am level 183 on PC and 174 on PS4. I have played plenty of both ranked and more casual. I have seen Siege inside and out quite a lot. Recently I have been noticing siege no longer changing for the better so while I do not think this will have any effect, I want to at least see what other people think about what I have to say about what is happening to what was my favorite game. I have no clue how Ubi can fix Siege now but it is unrecognizable from the game I bought in 2015, for better or worse.
Ill break it into categories, some of which you have seen before.
Most of these problems relate to PC, so be sure you understand my perspective and the PC difference before saying something is not right.
Rainbow Six: Siege Traps
In general: There are now, way way too many trap characters. I like siege for it's legendary gun mechanics. I do not want to ALWAYS be looking for traps, I am trying to kill people and clear a building or defuse a bomb etc etc. Seriously. How can there be this many trap objects? 3 (soon 5) EDDs, 3 Mats, 7 ****ing needs, 4 grzmot and debatably an echo drone for a total of 17 (or 18 and soon 2 more) traps, 7 of which are invisible and soon 5 more invisible kap traps will be there. The game is turning into Attackers vs Trappers.
NO TRAPS SHOULD BE INVISIBLE. This is a no-brainer. If I have to watch my feet for 4 trap characters, why should any trap also be invisible! It is absolutely shocking to me that Lesion gets 7 of his traps and on top of being small, they get invisibility.
Frost is the best balanced trap character. Her trap is massive and does not instantly kill but people fall victim anyway. Her gun is extremely hard hitting and she serves her purpose brilliantly.
Kapkan is alright now. Being armor 3 makes him less useful though. His traps are nearly invisible and are insta-kill. Combine that with his forced placement spots on doors and windows and Kap is a respectable operator. In my opinion, his traps should remain the exact same way they are. He does not need any trap changes at all, he just needs to be armor 2. Unfortunately, Ubi plans on making unnecessary changes to Kap, changing him in a worse way and adding yet another ridiculous invisible trap.
Lesion is the overpowered operator, not Ela. No matter how much the noob community whines "Ela is op, 50 bullets???" meanwhile the attackers have acog, lmgs, and 3 hit kill assault rifles. Lesion has an extremely accurate competitive gun. Tack that together with 7 invisible traps that do 10 instant damage and will kill you if you don't pull it out AND have an icon over them so he can shoot you through a wall when you step on them, and you have the least balanced operator in the game. Way too often I have seen it come down to Lesion vs Anyone and Anyone loses in the 1v1 because his trap does 10 damage, and the attacker is the final survivor of the round and has been hit. Lesion needs to keep the number of his traps, but the invisibility has to go. That is extremely unrealistic and unbalanced. If his ability was designed to slow rushers (which it was), then Ubi needs to re-balance him as he is effective in way too many areas, especially against shields. If it was up to me, I would also remove the initiaal damage and nerf it to only 7 recurring damage. He is a problem.
Ela is balanced because of how insane the attackers are. She is a Mach 5 counter to glitch strafing Ash. One defender that can kill as fast as the attackers is perfectly fine.
Echo is fine as he is too.
Maps
Ubi ubi ubi. I liked Yacht. Favela was eh (**** packaging room though) but I made it my chance to run a new op I never user, or go recruit revolver or something fun. Taking those two out of ranked is fine, but removing them completely is in insult to the players.
I hate Barlett and it seems that it may be the least popular of all Siege maps. Why was this not addressed?
Separately, Plane is my least favorite map, anyone else not care for it? PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE IT.
Please do not remove any maps from casual, and especially do not remove any from the game completely, especially again not for PC players.
Acog
This was a controversial problem and I want to weigh my opinion in. Please ignore your bias and give what I have to say a chance.
I used to be a Bandit main. I loved both of the Defending Germans because they used the attackers advantages against them: they had the ability for precise headshots. It was balanced because Jager had a very very unpredictable gun (PC only, on PS4 is was more OP than Glaz ever was), and Bandit had moderate kick with moderate-low damage. For sure, neither of these weapons match an attacker with Acog as attackers guns for the most part have less kick as well as significantly higher damage. This was a fine balance. As literally everyone knows, Ubi decided to cut the Acog from the Germans to fix a totally unrelated issue. Now Ubi has ruined Bandit (I have always been a holo-flanking Jager) by taking him from a powerful defender, to just another acog-less defender. Spawn trapping was such a huge problem, but my God this was the worst way to "fix" it, especially to those who had nothing to do with it, like I did. My best friend and I were anxious for this season because we were hoping the new defenders would be armor 2 or higher and have Acog. To us, this update was a sick joke from Ubi. To prevent spawn trapping, Ubi should have moved the spawns or added in a system to warn attackers if a defender is aiming at a spawn for the first 10 seconds or something. I hope they consider giving Bandit Acog back, I cannot even use him anymore.
Impending Recoil Apocalypse
Ubi. Please. I can get over the Acog and the Maps and the Traps and the general lack of communication from the devs as well as there being changes that noone is asking for (Glaz's yellow vision and Kapkan trap changes), but the gun mechanics of Siege are literally it's soul. Nothing compares to siege when it comes to shooting and kill markers, not Battlefield, not CoD and especially not ****ing CS:GO. I hate the idea of predictable recoil patterns. Changing the recoil will change the games identity, and for me, it will be the last nail in the coffin. Recoil patterns are not a good idea.
The problem Ubi mentioned is the randomness of the guns. I read once about the differences between PS4 and PC and I read something along the lines of "PC will have twice the diamond shaped recoil as consoles" (I will find the source if requested). To me then, this problem is simple. Instead of destroying the identity of the game, just try to dial down the random coefficient or whatever you want to call it. Please Ubi, or anyone, if you take nothing else out of this, please do not do recoil patterns. Changes like this really should have been made in the beta before people got used to and got attached to the game.
Terrorist hunt
Ubiiiiiiii. Why are terrorist spawning so insanely frequently outside and why are they not being marked? We could use a way to custom terrorist hunt, maybe something that would make it like T-hunt in RSV2. I am sure I am dreaming here. I get the sense the team does not care about T-hunt or Single player very much, which is a shame because the woman at the beginning of the game as well as the characters would have made for an excellent story.
Ping abuse
You have seen all this before. It's lazy but [insert complaints about fast-peeking and no-hitbox-ash here]. I really don't feel the need to go over all this again as I think even I have made a post where I recommended that the speed of operators on PC is lowered to those on consoles.
Please stop catering to Pro-League and new players. You're killing your casual but routine crowd.
That is about it. It is an enormously frustrating experience having my favorite game messed in this way. If you read this entire wall of text, you're the real MVP, why not leave a comment?
