    How to create a "Good" outpost map ?

    Hello everybody,

    first of all I'm french so you will excuse my poor english, please ...

    I would like to know how to create a good oupost ?
    Playing on FC3 and FC 4 on Ps3, editing maps for some weeks now, with the fc4 map editor, I've alerady "commited" assault and extraction maps but I'm sticken on Outpost ones.

    Don't konw how to equilibrate the number and the type of Wave 1 NPC, more, calling reinforcements by triggering an alarm is good, but I you are stealth, you just have to kill maximum 10-12 wave 1 ennemies and that's all folks for the map.

    Very frustating...

    I tried to put some areas where you are forced to be detected by wave 1, in the reach of calling wave 2, but here too, if you let the storm calm down and don't kill anyone of the wave 2, the poor Wave 3 will never appear...

    Very frustating again !!

    SO I someone could help me by giving tips or some experience I'll be very happy.
    Same things about the size of a good custom outpost, numbers of easy/hard ennemies, and so on...

    Waiting with impatience for some answers, thank you by advance !

    Ohh, I forgot : Do the FC3/fc4 servers work for France ? imposible to connect (my connection is good), and Ubisoft has never answerd my Mail...

    If you are able to force alarms to be triggered then the player must kill all enemies in ALL waves in order to complete the map. But it seems to me you just want an Assault map. Why use alarms at all. The only difference between Outpost and Assault is the alarms. It is much easier to control waves in Assault...one dead, 25% dead, 50% dead, 75% dead.

    Yes you're right in one sense

    My question was just : is there any "magic recipe" to create an good, I mean an intresting, outpost map ?!

    When we take outpost in game, the feeling is to avoid alarm and kill evrybody like a snake, but maybe it's just because far cry dev's are dev's, And I'm not !

    I mean when you're attacking an outpost, there are 6-10 ennemies and it seems to be a fortress to take, because of the placement of NPC's, because of objects etc...

    When I create an outpost map, It sounds empty, or ridiculous in size map... I think I just can't make the difference beetween my assault/extraction map's using 512*512 squares (I love big open maps !), and an outpost HAS to be smaller.

    Your answer just opened my eyes, thanx a lot dude !

    I still don't understand what you want to know. Map size? They are all the same 512X512, Outpost, Extraction, Assault, Hunt.... all the same. As for wave 1 you should be able to get 14 AI in it. Keep in mind AI includes Enemies, Allies, Animals and Vehicles. So if you want more Enemies, cut back on the other AI. You can make a very hard Outpost with 14. If you just want harder, use more Guard instead of Army. They have more armor and better weapons. Outpost work better if it is in one general area, not spread out over the entire map. It makes proper spawning of the waves harder or impossible to get it right. If you want to use the entire map, just make it an Assault.

    But to answer your question, no, there is no magic recipe. You start with a "good" design. Then get the game-play to work with the design.

    yes, yes, you've understood what I wanted to know : how to make a good one by using AI.

    You answered me very clearly.
    It's okay and I thnak you, I'm gonna work on small map for outpost, bigger one for assault, and more of all, working (hard) the design and placement of objects to make an outpost very realistic.

    Using the guard instaed of the Army NPC seems to be a good thing to make it harder, and modificators like "one bullet kills" seems to be aslo an idea to make an outpost a nigtmare to live !!

    You can disable all alarms first then start your killing spree... this usually is the best approach for easier cleanup! Lately we got a lot of crap (read excessive) community maps out there especially outpost maps mostly unreasonably excessive in alarm pole/enemy numbers. I think it requires a lot of dev. experience to produce a decent well balanced map which is a joy to play. Take the BEH.... outpost maps as example how not to abuse originally good maps.

    thank you dude !

    I finally succeeded in connecting my ps3 to the web (static Ip problem and DNs solved).
    So I reached the FC server and I saw a lot of maps very very intersting !

    The BEH, The ubisoft ones, I played them, I Dowloaded them and more of all, once downloaded you could edit a map created by another one : to leran map editor tips it's wonderful !!

    So thank you all for your answers, I'm gonna become a map creator now, a real who uplaod his own maps on the server !

    Focus on Top Rated for good map examples(AI) as it should be - BEH is just a savage mod of existing older maps.
    Footloose is producing quality maps as well - just search maps for his name.
