Insurgency which includes Socom Source Mod 20 bucks maybe $10, what u got to lose? The main reason I post this is A, I am a huge socom fan, love the game, nearly perfect. Does it have the best graphics? Nah, Would it be better on console with every one using controllers, possibly. But what it lacks is made up for by quality, solid and FUN gameplay. I would buy it twice because it is a quality game. And B, I think the crosshair position is the best format for 3rd person shooters, it eliminates the need to switch shoulder, it provides more a more even view of the maps, and target acquisition is smoother and more accurate.
Hey, I just wanted to say I was pretty harsh on this game. I don't take back anything though, I could have used less harsh language. My overall opinion still stands and I think the community has pretty much echoed some of the same criticisms.Originally Posted by Ubi-Iudex Go to original post
The final verdict and list of improvements remain the same.
Fix the cross hairs, my recommendation, pull back the camera and centralize the crosshairs for even surveying of the map and surroundings (i have seen some similar post about the crosshair position being a problem)
Increase the player count to 8v8 (possibly the most requested)
Optimize the framerate if possible.
The 3rd person to 1st person mode is jarring and disorienting, my recommendation is to make a 3rd and 1st person only mode.
There are to many player indicators and things on the hud, personally I would like to just have a hardcore mode, the HUD just seems over encumbered.
Add more objective variety, demolition, assassination, domination, the basics, and some unique ones also.
Add weapon modifications that effect your weapon stats, ie fire rate, damage, range, spread, scopes, suppressors. Make it to where each mod has its pros and cons to balance each out. Progression should feel rewarding, and their should be a sense of achievement and excitement for unlocks.
Final verdict
I don't think most these options can really be added into the current product. It is to far in development, and some changes would change the fundamental gameplay. I could only say to take these into account for your next project, listen to your community, but don't cowtail to all the complainers (that includes me). Most of these people are kids, I swear if I had a dollar for everytime someone complained about "camping"(i'd be a rich man) SO MUCH, that devs and server owners make changes like camping punishments that are almost totalitarian. That is kind of off topic but the point is, just because people complain about something doesn't make it a gameplay problem, they just suck and cant adapt to play styles.
Overall the beta did not sell me, it did the opposite. That is my opinion though, I make my own money and I choose how to spend it, and this is not something I would buy in its current state. Good for you for putting the beta out there so you can get opinions on how your product is and how it could be improved, that is how it should be done. Positive or negative I hope you gained some insight on what your fans think and learn from it.
Cheers.
One last thing, the people that give this game glowing reviews saying it excellent, and practically perfect, and oh there are only one or two things that could be improved, while they sound nice, are completely counter productive. They promote lazy development, and decreased quality. They are sell outs. These are the MOST damaging comments and reviews, and I am sure some of them are paid, or have some incentive for praising then game. Don't be fooled though, its obvious the game has problems, Failure to recognize them is the biggest mistake developers can make.
Pugs ain't a military tactical team shooter. Hell, most socom fans are playing America's Army Proving grounds. This game can end up with a dedicated base like Rainbow, or burn out. To be honest ghost recon already got its reviews and thats what most people know about the game, so unless they get a good word of mouth like AA, I just don't see player count rising.
With that said, Despite the torture of playing with randoms that lacked most of the time any common sense, the game can be fun when everything works well. This is NOT a FPS. Playing like it is the reason why you lads are getting killed.
It's my money and I'll use it wherever I want. Now if you have money for only 1 game especially with that game being years old, then go ahead bash your head against GRW. See if it makes you feel better.
Personally I prefer Wildlands. The tactical stealth is completely irreplaceable. Shooting guns exists in all games, but this kind of stealth exists only in Wildlands.
