OK, so I played the GR Ghost War beta for about 20 min, I have not played the base game....so I only have 20 min of total game play.
Here is the thing about modern 3rd person shooters. They can't figure out what they want to be, PUBG figured it out. If your going to make a 3rd person shooter then focus on 3rd person, it is jarring to go from 3rd to first person.
If you want to do 1st person, then make a 1st person only mode.
Secondly have a look at this screen shot.
Look at where the cross hair is, way off to the right and over the shoulder, now as far as I am able to tell there is no was to switch what shoulder your cross hair is on, but even if it was, ITS A TERRIBLE FEATURE, its disorientating, annoying to have to do in fire fights and is just unnecessary.
Now here is screen shot of a game that is, about 15 years old, maybe you will recognize it.
See where those cross hairs are? RIGHT ABOVE THE HEAD. This eliminates the whole over the shoulder camera, need to switch, awkwardness. If you can change that, then you would have your self at least a semi decent game.
I cant play with the exaggerated cross hairs, cant stand it. Made the game unplayable.
Then you have the gameplay, which isn't that great either (mainly because the camera position), but its ONLY 4 V 4 on maps that can very well handle 8 v 8.
Then there is the framerate, which feels as if its running about 20 fps on XB1 which makes the cross hair situation even worse....
Over all the biggest problem with this game and to be fair most modern 3rd person shooters is the camera angle. If you fix that then maybe it would be worth a shot. I have a feeling your not going to. Which is fine because I wasn't gonna buy the game any way. But if you fixed it, I may consider, even though its a long shot.
fyi socom had first person too. the 1st person in socom did not have a gun model shown.
Going into first person is there in SOCOM on certain higher range weapons to help you see better at long distances and I would do it quite often on certain maps.
if I recall correctly thermal scoping was also done in 1st person
The difference though was that it does not improve accuracy so was not that necessary, but it could help you with aiming just by zooming in on a target.
I think the question here is do you prefer to have to ads to get more accuracy or not. In Socom all your shots was in ADS, if you looked at the character models fire they always brought weapon up regardless of being in 1st or third.
I think Ghost war might attach too much importance to aiming down sight to get the accuracy you want.
YEAH, I cant fking STAND the 3pv in this game, jumping between 1st and 3pv. Its really becomes an issue when im taking cover, im in cover, or so I think and suddenly im getting shot up. Or, I go to ADS and where im looking isnt where the gun is aiming, so I lose time reaiming. Or, like last night, I came around a corner, a sicario came around a corner and while im ****ing around with the 3pv, and the **** *** controls on my guy, rather then him just turning the **** around, he walks around in a circle, gives the guy all the time in the world to shoot me dead.
Yeah, this game would be infinitely BETTER as a soley 1st person view game. Along with 1st person controls and 1st person person handling......
Warframe is also a 3pv game, but it makes it a little more tolerable, still, the same 3pv wonky controls get me from time to time, like walking up stairs and ****, my guy gets hung up on ****, but yeah, its not as bad there...
number one your are talking to a SOCOM VET, played since socom1 when u had to buy the network adapter to play online. Did Socom have a FPS mode? Yeah....kinda, it was kinda janky. I had the claw quick sniping technique down double tappin up to get to ur sniper scope...so yeah I know it had a pseudue fps mode, but 95% of the game play was in third person and its hard to dispute that socom 2 was the best 3rd person shooter around, and a lot had to do with the cross hair location.Originally Posted by lilxpaprika Go to original post
And the zoom in socom is not the same thing as going into FPS mode in GR.
Personally I don't think there should be a first person mode option when playing in third person. Like i said its jarring its extra button presses, it gets messy in fire fights, its just not good.
I will do a lil recording of how 3rd person is done right with some socom source game play which i highly recommend u try out (Insurgency socom mod) Steam 20 bucks 100% worth it.
You can aim exclusively in third person by setting it to aim "over the shoulder". There your so-called "problem" is fixed. No need for a lengthy thread.
As of the video above my post, it's exactly the same thing as Wildlands. No benefits at all.
In both Wildlands and the thing in the video the crosshairs are in the middle of the screen. The only thing changing is where the character is located and personally having the camera above the character feels weird and makes me uncomfortable.
As of the switching shoulders feature it is not unnecessary. There are tons of moments where it is useful. Here's one; let's say that you are taking cover behind the left side of a wall and you don't have the ability to change shoulders. What happens is your character is looking and aiming at the wall instead of the enemies ahead of you and there's nothing you can do about it. Another example is when entering a doorway but on the left side of the door there's a wall and the room is on your right side. If your camera is stuck on the left side by the time you get inside and turn around there's a bullet in your head. With the ability to change to your left shoulder, you can look on your right inside the room easier and before even entering the room.
At the end of day if you don't like it just bind the according key to a button you will never press and be done with it. No need to whine about it.
The crosshair should not be over the shoulder it should be centralized. So that doesn't fix any problem.... enjoy your game that you overpaid for and will enjoy for a few days... I'm done here, just because I know the major problem isn't gonna be fixed, and even if they did, they still have a ton of other problems to deal with.
To summarize this thread in 1 post:
"I like the camera being in the center and thus I'll ignore everything good with this game and focus on this particular thing that I think is bad, even though for others it might be good. Now of course since I think that it's bad that means that it's 200% bad and if you think otherwise you'd better think that it is bad because I say so. Also, I will spend my time flaming on this game's forums because I ain't got something better to do with my free time, which apparently I have a lot of since I made 2 threads on the exact same subject with the same offensive attitude".
Seems like a good time for a lock by the mods. It's not like there is any useful feedback here anyway.
