First off, let me preface my comment with the fact that I own every Far Cry released, on multiple platforms each, and have beaten them all. I love the Far Cry series, except for one small issue, the lack of New Game +.
I truly hope this gets back to the Devs, but I somehow doubt it will. But, the lack of New Game + has completely killed the replayability for me. The grind is my least favorite part of any game, it is simply not enjoyable for me. While I know several people who love the grind, and understand why some would, I simply don't. However, I am someone, that when I truly enjoy a game, I love playing through them multiple times, and when it comes to games that require a lot of grinding, if those games lack New Game +, then I simply do not replay them, as I dread the thought of going through all of that grind again. I do enjoy maxing out everything, which is not normally feasible in a Far Cry game, and without a new game + option, it is something that most players will not get done.
I understand that we can reset the outposts, but that is just not the same thing. I have numerous playthroughs on every single game I own, which is literally 1000s of them, when I enjoy the game, and especially when a New Game + option is available. Sometimes the feeling of being so completely over powered and just wrecking things is a blast as well. The thing I don't understand, is why Ubisoft, to this point, has refused to give us a New Game + option in the Far Cry series. When the option is given, it is just that, an option, and for those that wish to begin the game from total scratch have that option as well. Nobody is forced to replay a game with New Game +, but I would guarantee that you numbers of multiple playthroughs by individual players would rise exponentially, if this option were present. Just as some examples, but I have beaten Mass Effect 2 and 3 around 12 times each, on numerous platforms. Same goes for the Ratchet and Clank series, and countless others. However, while the Far Cry games are some of my favorite games, I do not have a single replay on any of them, and it sucks, as I would love to jump back into every one of them. Sometimes the grind to get every weapon fully powered up can be a blast in itself, as well.
Please Ubisoft, give us a New Game Plus option with Far Cry 5, and if given the option, then, speaking for myself, I would guarantee 6-10 playthroughs, without question. As stated earlier, it does not need to be forced, in fact I have never seen a game that says the only way you can replay it is if you carry over everything from your previous playthrough, no, they simply ask if you would like to begin a new playthrough with all of your previously gathered XP, weapons, gadgets, etc...
Thanks for listening!!
I've been suggesting NG+ for FC since FC3 came out. While not for all the same reasons, I agree. I also enjoy the 'unstoppable wrecking ball" type feeling you can get from being completely OP, especially early on in the games. I think Batman Arkham City did NG+ really, really well, in that they put the harder more complicated enemies against you earlier in the game and gave you a few handicaps like removing counter icons & such. I fully support a NG+ option for FC!
Yeah, I really began hoping for it following 3 as well. Yes, I agree with everything you said, especially about Arkham City, I wished they would have done it will Asylum too, as going around a completely evacuated island, in order to finish finding all of the riddles was a terrible idea. Would have been much more fun, to have all of those bad guys back out, making you fight your way through. Ratchet and Clank does precisely what Arkham City did, in that it gives you everything back, but it cranks up the difficulty level, which is perfectly acceptable. I have no problem with that, in fact it is preferred.Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
I'm not really interested in God Mode of sort but i prefer to buy single player games which have a great replay-ability (weeks or more), a very difficult task that in fact very few games have achieved so far. The factor that i'm most interested in is unpredictability and Far Cry 2 had some of it. What i think is the ultimate feature for almost unlimited replay-ability is the use of procedural generation (Spelunky, No Man's Sky).
It would be interesting to see a separate mode for the Far Cry franchise, similar to Endurance Mode in Rise of the Tomb Raider, where outposts are scattered randomly on a new map and you get to choose its maximum size maybe..
no procedurally generated map will ever be as interesting as one that is hand crafted they cannot utilize the enviroment for narrative in any way because it is just a algorythm throwing random assets together rather than a designer telling a story for example when you come across a building in far cry 4 that clearly had an execution take place in it that woud not happen if it was just a computer dropping random buildings around i prefer meticulously designed worlds that can inform the player rather than the bland and empty worlds of procedural generation but that is just me
That's true for the campaign but it could still be entertaining as a separate game mode. The method is still rudimentary and will probably improve in parallel as artificial synapses and robotics AI will take off.Originally Posted by Gr4nt8r0dy Go to original post
another thing as well that used to be motive to replay games but has been all but abandend now is cheats and things like that if beating the game one time unlocked some cheat or something new that we can use when playing the game a 2nd time there would be more reason to do it
Are cheat codes no longer a thing? Hell, I remember IDKFA in Doom, up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right ba-start for 30 men in Contra on NES. Don't remember them giving me cause for a replay though. I am sure some did, which is cool. I am all for whatever it takes to get people playing games, and getting the most fun they can out of them. If some codes are you bag, then hell yeah, let's put them back, if they were removed to begin with.
Yeah, I had read the Andromeda actually tried to use some procedural areas, and found out rather quickly, it is pretty much impossible to maintain the flow of the story in a game like that, using randomly drawn maps.Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
Sounds like he's saying cheats in games in general are on the decline, which I would say seems accurate. Using cheats would be fun to do on a 2nd playthrough, especially if they had interesting ones.Originally Posted by BA0701 Go to original post
