    Guns, Fangs For Hire, Quests

Was looking at one of the Far Cry websites and found these images.

So is Boomer the only dog we can use / control, is he up-gradable ?

So we know Nick is a Guns For Hire but he is also listed here as Quest Giver so can we go to him and carry out the quests without signing him up as a Guns For Hire - so do missions but don't use him / don't unlock him for Guns For Hire ?
Can Nick learn new skills such as barrel rolls and can he spread smoke or chemicals or drop fire / oil from his plane as well as bombs ?

Grace is listed as Guns For Hire only - No Quests. Can we upgrade her sniper rifle / skills ?

Mary is a Quest Giver only according to this so no Guns For Hire with her.

Pastor Jerome is also a Quest Giver - no Guns For Hire.

Somehow I had it in my head that Jerome and Mary were Guns For Hire but it appears not.

I'm also curious what the "unified progression" means. Is that something meaning actions in SP / MP can effect progression in the other mode?

Far Cry 5’s lead writer, Drew Holmes, said the new system would be based around stoking rebellion in various parts of the game’s world.

“As you’re going through the world – in each region you’re trying to build up a resistance,” Holmes told the site. “I may do a quest and that will fill up my resistance meter. What that’s doing is that the game is becoming reactive to the things that I’m doing. So the people that are on the side of the resistance, rallying to me, helping me take an outpost, I’m getting new followers, and at the same time the cult’s paying attention to this, 'We’ve got to squash this rebellion. We’ve got to change about tactics, send in fresh enemies.'

“And it’s also how the bad guys, the stars of the show, are asserting themselves into the story,” he added. “I’m not going along and saying ‘I’m going to do a story mission now. I’m exploring and clearing all of the stuff out,’ and then boom the story’s happening to me. I think it feels much more reactive. I am choosing to set up whatever experience I want rather than us dictating the narrative to the player.”

Could that above explain Unified Progression ?
As for the Resistance Meter this has already been discussed.

Far Cry 5 is already shaping up to have quite a few differences from its predecessors with the removal of both towers and mini-maps that players often looked to for guidance.

According to Drew Holmes, the lead writer that's working on Ubisoft's Far Cry 5,these types of gameplay changes are being made to ensure that players have a more reactive experience that'll focus more on missions and other progression elements.

Comparing the upcoming Far Cry game to previous installments in the series, Holmes also added that many of the above playstyles were very evident in the older games' missions where a player was pushed towards playing one way in certain situations. By removing those forced limitations, players will be able to play how they want in Far Cry 5.

And to help join together the exploration elements with the campaign, Holmes also added that something called a "resistance meter" will be implemented in the game.

"We came up with this idea of the resistance meter, as you’re going through the world – in each region you’re trying to build up a resistance. I may do a quest and that will fill up my resistance meter. What that’s doing is that the game is becoming reactive to the things that I’m doing."

Holmes added that with this new resistance meter, the story and exploration will feel much more intertwined as opposed to games that have very strict story and side missions.

“We call [the change] the 360 degree approach,” Holmes said in an interview with GamingBolt about their plans for the game.
“I can go, I can scout around posts, and I can see where guys are going in and out, and I can plan whatever sort of tactic there’s going to be. I can go in stealthily or I can go in guns blazing. That systemic approach, I think this is what makes Far Cry stand out amongst a lot of other games. The goal this time around was to say, ‘is there a way that we can take that style of play and put it in the entire game?’"

    ...

The above sounds like it is explaining the resistance meter, not progression, I don't know though, maybe that is what it means. We've not seen anything about the skills or anything yet, but "progression" to me seems like it'd be related to that, but it is hard to say because they haven't said anything about a skill system in the game or how progression there works.

Does that mean that even if you prefer to play without the guns for hire there will still be a local resistance build-up that will help you and clean the outposts? I'm even more confused now...

I don't know, the way I was reading this is that maybe an outpost type area when we take over it locals build up who would then defend it - Remember in FC4 sometimes it would say an outpost is under attack but you could choose to not do anything it never fully got taken over again - possibly with FC5 could these outposts or areas we make safe (maybe areas like Falls End from the E3 Demo) actually get re-taken, thinking about it when you re-take Falls End you don't want to see an empty town or a town with A.I. that do nothing so it would be interesting if people move in and help to defend it, so maybe you get more people joining that town and your resistance meter goes in and then the Cult re-attacks.

Could they attack in different levels so maybe at some point they will attack in planes and drop bombs ?
I am just guessing here - is it something like Fallout where you gain followers or even like in Primal (with that you did things to strengthen the tribe)

I guess we need more info so looking forward to hearing how it all works.

Outpost reclaim would be cool. It increases the game longevity with more action.
