Was discussing Far Cry 5 with a few friends down the pub earlier tonight and every single one of us said the same thing. We were really hyped for Far Cry 5 until we realised it was releasing in February. Had so much fun playing Far Cry 2, 3 and 4 over the Christmas period and was so hoping Far Cry 5 would release in time for Christmas too so i can get the chance to play it fully. Ah well, maybe miss out on this one like Primal or pick it up Christmas 2018 in the bargain bin instead.
Has the release date killed the hype for anyone else?
I think the release date is going to hurt sales just like a spring release hurt Far Cry Primals sales. I know a lot of people didn't buy Primal because of its lack of guns, but i know the release date hurt sales aswell. I personally didn't buy it for those reasons. And i think because Far Cry 5 isn't that much of a leap forward to previous Far Cry games it will put some off and will be totally overhsadowed by other big releases like Red Dead 2 etc. I agree that there is nothing good releasing in time for this Christmas. Nothing good last Christmas either. I guess i'll be sticking with Grand Theft Auto Online again this year and whatever PS Plus offers me.
Primal had no Multiplayer, No Map Editor, no guns, no vehicles but still did ok for sales, it wasn't the massive Far Cry project that 2,3,4 were so I think it held it's own - I bought it a long time after launch and didn't expect much so was surprised to see better lighting, better visuals and fog - it had some nice stuff going on and was better than I expected.
I think you just summed up why your post is just garbage with the time of year the game is releasing because you mentioned Red Dead Redemption, if it is good enough for them to release in Spring why is it not good enough for Ubisoft to release Far Cry 5 in spring also The Crew 2 could get a similar launch date.
So is it wrong for Assassins Creed to launch in October because that is 2 months before Xmas also, with FC5 2 months after.
GTAV released on September the 17th 2013 and the PC version on January 27th years later so that wasn't an Xmas release.
Video games launch all year round now they never used to release through the summer months but now some big AAA games do just that, February isn't so bad it's just a day - basically you either want the game or you don't.
Yeah, it's weird right? They didn't consult me either on whether I have many games to pick up when determining the release schedules for their games...Originally Posted by GRAW2ROBZ Go to original post
The release date would have been a very small factor of why Primal didn't sell as much as other entries. It was the game itself and what it was that some didn't like. As champ said, no guns, being a stone age setting, no dinos (which alot of people wanted) those were factors that dinged it's sales probably moreso than the march release date... Had primal released that holiday season it probably would've done worse as it would've been lost in the crowd of other higher profile titles. February is still technically part of the 'winter' season. Spring isn't until near the end of march and even then RDR2 won't release on the first day of spring, so I think there'll be well over a month between the release of the 2 titles, probably more knowing rockstar. RDR1 didn't come out til May in 2010.Originally Posted by BoxerBoi28UK Go to original post
Point of the matter is would you rather have a rushed, more buggy game to play with your mates in December, or a more complete, more polished experience in February? Better for them to announce it as a Feb. release than as a Nov. release which they delay to Feb. anyway right?
Summers are still pretty dry though. Rarely get a high profile game between June- August. Sometimes a big one comes out late Aug. to get a jump on the rest of them but 80% of the biggest games are out in the Sept. - Dec. window with the rest usually being the result of a few month delays in Jan-Feb and then spring releases throughout march-may...Originally Posted by Fallen-Champ Go to original post
Ubisoft has people working in the marketing area; do you think you're more informed than they are? And the release date is not really a choice when the producer says that it cannot ensure quality before X date.Originally Posted by BoxerBoi28UK Go to original post
Not garbage at all, Fallen Champ. It is well known within the industry that the majority of developers avoid going head to head with Rockstar and try to avoid releasing a game at the same time as Rockstar Games. Its been that way for a long time. A lot of other devs have postponed their games to avoid going head to head with Rockstar. Rockstar is one of the only devs that can release a game at any time and not have to worry about sales figures. They are a juggernaut within the industry. The point is many of us older gamers are too busy to game throughout the year and Christmas is when we get some time off to sink our teeth into gaming. And all the big titles release ready in time for Christmas as Christmas is the biggest time of year for gaming. Its when gaming gets the most sales.
I don't get why you are mentioning GTAV and AC's release dates. They both released in time for Christmas. The summer is still a dead zone for game releases as very few games release in the summer. And summer sales are always slow.
