When this game first came out I played it and loved the story. I am not a PvP type of person, I find it rather boring because its always exactly the same thing, you shoot people, people shoot you ad nauseam. So I waited, I got better gear, I waited some more. Nothing new came out for a couple of months so I stopped playing. Then my son got a few games that he likes on the account so gave that account to him and forgot about the game. I started a new account for myself when Ghost Recon Wildlands came out, then a couple of weeks ago I figured I might go ahead and get The Division for my new account and see what things had changed since I stopped playing. I thought surely you would have added a good amount to the story by now. Boy was I wrong! Everything that was added since I stopped playing was almost all for the PvP crowd with the exception of the underground and incursions. I do have to applaud you on making the base game more difficult than it was when the game first released, it took no time at all to reach lvl 30 back then and it took me considerably longer to reach that goal this time around.
So the question is, when exactly are you planning to finish telling the story that so many of us purchased the game for in the first place? I see that with update 1.8 you're adding a new PvE area to the game, but it's not clear if you're actually going to be telling anymore of the story or if its just a new area full of encounters that don't really add anything new to the story.
So clue us in already. When are you going to give us more story? When are we going to see you really expand the city so that we can explore more of it? Why haven't you raised the level cap? Its been stuck at lvl 30 since the day the game released. Give us some hints already! While many of the changes that have been made have really improved the gameplay compared to the original release, most of the changes are focused on the PvP side of the game and that simply does not appeal to many of us. Are you just going to ignore the story until you release the next game in this franchise or are you actually planning to put out expansions that focus on telling more of the story? What happened to Bliss, did he die in the crash or did he get away? What about Agent Keener and the Russian virologist that he kidnapped? What happened to April Kelleher? Are we to assume that the Cleaners, the Rikers, and the LMB all gave up and turned themselves in? That can't be right because when I run around in the city I run into groups of them.
Oh and for the love of God, what happens after we shoot down the helicopter and end up having to listen to Aaron Keener rub our noses in the fact that he won!?!?!? Yes we get a pat on the back and an attaboy, but that's where it ends. Why?
Sorry if this turned into a sort of rant, that really was not my intention. I just really thought that we would have more story content by now instead of everything having been focused on PvP.
In my opinion, the story wasn't that good :O
Mostly forgettable characters, or characters that are important that you never hear to much about.
It took me 2 characters to understand it.
However, I would like it to continue, even if it isn't in the for of large missions in the LZ.
I would still like to know what's happening.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of concepts in the game like
Are the cleaners justified in their practices?
Is it okay to kill dudes and take their loot, when that's exactly what they were doing?
In addition, the city was amazingly crafted
...
But as for the main story with Keener, Jessica, Rhodes, Fay, Benetiz
That story line is pretty meh.
The characters are mostly forgettable, unless you want to understand them or have put hundreds of hours in the game and just heard their names to many times.
Fay is all talk and you never see her feats as an agent because of her infinity broken leg and she is the biggest story character in the game, besides the player agent.
The missions you find the main people in are easy and kinda dumb. i.e. place 3 fuses in and reset the power. 10 minutes and done.
The atmosphere of desperation that should be in an apocalypses, hardly shows itself.
The game itself continues to add activities that make no sense lore wise. (Legendary Missions(Stated not to be lore), Outbreak GE(Should be a cleaner war if this happened), 1.8 Resistance mode(Named bosses that are dead come back to fight you))...
The story itself was very short.
...
The story had a solid foundation but the devs seem to have decided to put gameplay and fun over the continuity of the lore and story.
I just hope with the Division 2, they weave story and gameplay together better, and maybe not hold teh agents hand so much :P
I am also a PVE player and bought the entire game (including all DLCs) expecting to have continuous story/campaign, you know how an RPG-shooter is expected to be. Levels will go higher than 30 and such. However, I have the same sentiments, the developers were too focused with PVP that they have forgotten what the game was supposed to be.
I dont go to dark zone or the PVP team play. I just enjoy running around killing bosses and collecting money and recalibrating my gear. (in short, I just grind and grind and grind)
However, I am still playing it because of friends. However, I am still hoping for Year 2 of division to have an extended map and story missions. Maybe the snow will stop? etc.
Patch 1.18 gives something for PVE players and that is some PVE content, I am also hoping for a continuation of the story.
P.S. I have nothing against PVP as I know there are some who likes to play on PVP mode, but at least give some credit to PVE players would be appreciated.
I do both PvE and PvP. Everyone here is in the same like mind as I. When is the story going to be completed. When are we going to be able to go to places that have been hinted at for over a year? When are we going to be able to go to New Jersy (let it burn in my opinion) when are we going to Central Park? its just over the wall or through the door fer Frack sake, The CDC in Michigan has been hinted at also. I am at the point of frack it who is giving a shat about a story line that is incomplete besides the players? Definetly not Massive. If that isnt true guys, prove me wrong. I will welcome it.
I know there are different styles of PvP. Different types of matches, different places that it can take place. I call it organized chaos. But the last 2 or 3 patches have been surrounded by PvP needs and wants. I know that in the gaming industry you have to keep the attention of the player. But with new content and catering to a spacific type of play push people away from an already small community. I look at the Base Of Operations and see the amount of people that are there, then the amount of peope that are in the DZ. that isnt many. The amount of people that play Last Stand is sparse to say the least. I know there has been a tremendous amout of transparencey from Dev's with State of the game and other ways. But to be honest the game is well lacking something. I like playing this game. I will play, like a streamer said, till the wheels fall off. But it isnt changing the fact that it's suffering a slow death.
Over all finish the story that you started. Fix shat that you should have in the first place, if that means revamping the game DO IT! Save your IP before people up leave and say screw it like they did with Watchdogs (the first game)
