I think it's paramount that one can land kill shots on animals if one hits the vitals from the right angle with the applicable calibers for one's intended target, otherwise hunting is rather dull shot placement ought to count for something... Hunting should be more fleshed out considering its role in the FarCry series so things like shot placement/tracking blood trails would be preferable to having to shoot animals x amount of times to kill them and some magical yellow trail leading to the animal for tracking wounded animals.
Suggestions for making hunting better are welcome.
I'd just suggest having a hit to the vitals be a kill shot albeit the animal could run for a little while before going down or depending on the caliber/size of the game and where the shot hits the animal could go down immediately. Not asking for bullet cam or x-ray shots of vital hits or even indicators of where to hit an animal's vitals (outside of maybe a tutorial) just that where one shoots actually counts for something meaningful. Just think a game that has hunting as a very large component would at very least have some sort of hit box for vital hits.
They should just find a way to incentivize making well placed shots rather than making the animals harder to kill without vital shots. I really liked how in 4 they made killing with non-ballistic weapons give you 2 skins, they could make vital shots increase all the resources you get from the animal and they never get far away. That way, you get a vital shot on an elk with the bow and you get the maximum resources and an instant kill.
I would love it if FC embraced a far greater detailed damage model. Being able to wound enemies & animals in realistic fashion, accurate shots dealing appropriate damage and level of gore. Not many (if any) FPS are really doing that anymore, so it'd be awesome if my favorite FPS took the reins on that aspect.
you should be able to shoot an enemy in the hand ten times and them still not be dead but that should be hard to do because the ai should not really allow that to happen to itself but the damage should be location based not just how many bullets have hit the enemy five rounds in a leg should still not mean they die but one or 2 to the chest should take them out and obviously only one to the head the weapon you use should also be a factor a small caliber hand gun could require 3-4 torso shots where as a assalt rifle would only be the 1 or 2 i said before
