I've played quite a few battles against Highlanders and there's just one thing I can't stand. That Celtic Curse cancel to a side attack. Every Highlander i've faced just spams that attack. It wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't for these things combined.
- The Celtic Curse is canceled quite late (debatable)
- The side attack is insanely fast and can be performed by both sides
- The range with that side attack is insane! Some people might say "it's because of his huge sword" but that's not the reason. The character actually slides on the floor, covering a huge distance too quickly.
- The side attack has hyper armour, so as the overhead they do after that. That really messes up counter attackers because you can't tell when you can actually attack because there's a big chance you are going to trade and you are going to be stopped if they just keep attacking.
I try to parry that attack sometimes but it's just too risky since it can come from both directions, so I usually try to block.
I am also aware that Highlander is slow and this attack is a great chance to get a hit, but I do not think that attack is the way to compensate. Shugoki doesn't have an attack with all those benefits, as far as i know and has to relly on other mechanics, like feinting. It's just very deceiving to see such a cool Hero being used like that. I know that the other heroes have their problems, but this one has bothered my alot lately.
I know I didn't play well in this video, I have trouble defending as orochi. I am only prestige 4 (overall) and I know i need to get better to deal with that, but i really wanted to know what everyone else thinks about that. I also accept tips (from people who wanna help, not show off) on how to deal with that. I edited the video very fast just to illustrate my problem. If you have any doubts about what i said try practicing that move with a bot and you'll see what I'm talking about. Thank you for your attention.
Dont try to parry or deflect top and you'll wreak them dead. This attack is extremely weak against any skilled opponent since it is uncancellable. Feinted heavy is 600 ms and it is guaranteed unless it was a top attack. 600 ms must be easy parry, which means either you tank top celtic curse or you parry side one. You may try to parry top if Highlander only uses top celtic curse, but its optional.
It is insanely fast, but I promise you, if you can block it then you can parry it. Most HL will favour a side when doing CCurse Cancels too, which helps.
Being a heavy attack it has a long parry window, and if you parry one it'll make the HL stop and think about throwing it out too often.
as a highlander, i will vouch and say after you block/parry a couple of those CC's the highlander knows its no longer a viable opener.Originally Posted by Moondyne_MC Go to original post
as for the OP, HL is slower than crap rolling up hill so if you take your time and pay attention you can counter him every step of the way. hes feints are few and happen way to late with a long recovery, his lights are slower than some other classes heavies. if he goes offensive stance, throw in the quickest attack you can to knock him out of it. if he cant get his celtic curse off with confidence to open you up to flow into OS, then his only real option is to use his crushing counter. and facing a fast class its hard, really hard, to get that timing just right with him. Highlander is hard to play and doesnt have a lot of guaranteed punishes or chains. If he killed you, he earned it
Nobody really cares about "fact" these days, do they.
It's just "write down anything what it feels like to me personally and that's automatically the objective fact, so they should fix it".... these days.
I'll just give you a heads-up on what Celtic Curse is like in "above average" level of gameplay. People in defense against Celtic Curse hold top guard and wait until as long as they can, and when there is nothing to block and the HL goes into a twirl, they simply dodge the side-cancel attack and do WHATEVER lovely combo they want to do on you.
Hence, nobody uses Celtic Curse all that much at all in higher levels. It's a "low level move" -- something that only works in lower levels and below average players.
Highlanders of higher skill brackets play like THIS:
...count how many Celtic Curse he uses in all three vids. Straight-up Celtic Curse is a suicide move, sorta like PK/Warlord/Centurion lunge move.
