You're not going to get many useful answers because you haven't told us who you are trying with.

With the information you've given us, all I can say is dominion vs ai with matchmaking turned off (a team of players steamrolls ai before anyone can score high often) is where I tend to have most success.

Play Dominion vs bots (on mode screen go into match options and turn off play online), then cap a point, sit on it, and kill any NPC's who come there.

Dominion vs AI - If you play warden turn on the come get some feat. Very easy then...otherwise cap and hold bases in dom and kill minions and alternate between those two things.

Killing ppl with ballistas at Sentinel map gives you something like 100 points for each hero kill. At C you will still gaining renown because ballista is inside the zone. Plus the ocasional rival hero trying to recover the zone. Of course, as many other orders, is easier if you try it vs. AI.
