I have never been able to get the timing right until today, but I have found that the game will not allow me to counterattack the cent's initiate into the knockdown. In a single match I saw the animation for the counterattack go off three times, but it did not stop the cent's attack, and the attack hit me and interrupted the counterattack. I am playing on the PS4 so I do not have a gif of the event.
With parry into guard break not working this takes away both tools we can use to avoid unblockables.

Umm...you can't use crushing counter against unblockables.
Crushing counter lights, such as the Warden's top light or HL's DF lights, are part of a group of attacks that have "superior block" attached to them, which includes Warlord lights, Valkyrie lights, Conq heavies and etc etc.. for these attacks to counter enemy attacks, it utilizes the superior block properties to directly counter the opponent's attack with your own.
So, I guess you get the picture of what happens when you use a superior BLOCK attack, against a UNBLOCKABLE move.
