Friendly fire in its current stage is ****e, in my opinion.
You should be able to damage your team mates to 100% if you are in a fight. To prevent trolls friendly fire is disabled when idle / not locked onto an opponent. It activates when locked onto a target.
Furthermore a little penalty system for people who manage to kill their mates in a fight. I didn't think about that but maybe a renown loss for the team or the player himself. Or minus XP at the end of a game.

^ This. So much this. Couldn't agree more. Right now, we have a system that encourages bad behavior with rewards for whoever touches a dying foe last and the horrors of friendly fire. Breaking kill-streak for trolls who kill teammates, XP loss, or force them to respawn along with their teammate (kinda like a timeout). I understand the realism of friendly fire and have no problem with it existing, but that in and of itself is not sufficient incentive for players to be more careful or not troll teammates. Similarly, kill-stealing is a a tactic that is very lucrative for offenders and frustrating for teammates. Why not give XP per kill based on damage done rather than killing blow? That way, a Valkyrie who's been working on that Conqueror during a drawn out duel isn't stuck with 6 points of renown when the Raider comes up and hits an unblockable strike for the execution. I understand that this won't solve the problem (it likely can't be solved), but it should curb it to some extent and thus discourage jerk behavior.
Players don't have any real way of combating trolls other than leaving a room and reporting them, which has no immediate effect that I can tell. This behavior is counter-productive to a team game (which is a large part of For Honor) and there should be mechanics to in place to discourage such behavior. Otherwise, why have teams? Just make it a free-for-all all the time. It's almost there as it is.
While I agree with you 100%, I can't see an increase to friendly fire making a difference. I've noticed that unless you are locked on, you can't see your teammates health bars. What if a raider comes up to that Valk, doesn't notice they are on one last bar of HP, the raider does a stunning tap then unblockable for max damage and kills the Valk, purely because they didn't see the bar till too late. I don't think a renown penalty or minus XP is enough incentive to stop ganking.Originally Posted by DFQN1 Go to original post
Friendly fire usually comes up as a way to combat ganking, and the idea is if teammates start killing other teammates they'll realise they need to be more careful in the future. This won't happen because the majority of people won't care because they aren't getting instantly punished for it. Friendly fire for it to work properly needs to deal damage back to the offender IMO. People care about their own health bars more than their teammates, so if their carelessness if affecting them, then we will start to see progress.
I agree, ganking should be apart of the game, it doesn't make sense for it not to be because It is hands down the best tactic to win fights, also 10x more realistic than "Honor" in a war.
With the changes suggested though, FF been directed back to the culprit you would see a decrease in ganking, or an increase in what I call great ganking. People always say to me "you're only good in a gank!" To which I reply "no, we are great in a gank" because we time our strikes and watch not only our opponent but our teammates too, so we time the strikes and be enemy receives max punish without me or my teammates hitting each other. So if FF is increased, hopefully team play becomes more of an emphasis. But knowing how this community is, I doubt it.
