    1v1 matchmaking: me reputation 0 vs a rep 17?

I had a match today against a guys with reputation level 17. I just played for a week. All my characters has reputation lv 0. How is it possible that the matching system gets me a rep 17 guy and indicates my skill is at the same level as him.
    The results of course 0-3.
I'm new to the game but I heard reputation 17 basically means level 17*20=340.
How is it fair to put a new player against one that practices for a long time.

    improve matchmaking system.
I'm more interested in playing with someone at my level. Send me to pro group later when I have more practice.

rep level isn't factored into "skill" level. (should be) as i've come to understand it, it's all based on k/d. if your opponent has completed 2000 fights and won 1200 at rep 17 (60%) and you have completed 10 and won 6 at rep 0(60%), the game classifies you both as being equally skilled since you k/d is the same. this is completely flawed because your opponent has had hundreds of hours of experience in comparison to you and that truly is unfair. your opponent has a full understanding of how to time parries and counter-guard break as well as effective use of feints. skill should be based on time played overall+time played with chosen hero+win/loss with chosen hero-bot/minion kills.

i'm not that great at the game and when matched up against a well/top geared opponent (4v4) it's extremely discouraging to even bother with PvP. stat revamp aside, it still doesn't matter for an unexperienced player when matched up against a seasoned player even if you're on the advantage side with the high stat gear.

I believe GunnyRed may be correct in his assessment. Just a couple of other things to add.

Firstly, because the networking is P2P, matchmaking will always prioritise connection over skill. That being said, you are playing a mode with plenty of activity, then there is probably enough skill choice in the connection pool. That is when the issues pointed by Gunny kick in. But if you are playing something with 'Low Activity' then you are mostly matched by connection, not skill. Hopefully this will change when we have dedicated servers, but that is likely not until next year.

On the skill, I still think people should pick the character they will play before the matchmaking, so rank and skill with that character is used. You see, I'm an overall rep 30 (so lots of time), but I really am good with 2-3 characters, okay with maybe 2 others and suck badly with a couple of other characters. So even though you are a beginner, I am sure we could be matched depending on who I am playing.

    Thank you for the explanation.
And I agree that this matching mechanism is totally unfair. If they count also vs AI game, sure I win most AI game. Today I duel against a reputation 40+ guy. There is absolutly no chance for me, I got rep 0 for all character...
So I guess if I need to have a fair game according to UBI rule, I need to feed to AI and get 300+ death first to make the K/D even.

Yeah I think Devs should hear your voice. We do need to pick character before get a 1v1 duel. And the matching should based on both K/D and reputation to even the odds. A formular like Skill=a*(K/D)+b*(reputation), they can adjust the parameters a and b.

We're still trying to make improvements to matchmaking. We know matchmaking isn't ideal right now, so we're trying to get that fixed.

We also do try not to pair up beginners with more experienced players, but we also want to keep queue times low. So there's always a balancing act we have to keep between many the many various factors that go into matchmaking.

Hope you guys work something out fast, it's a nice game.
Maybe you could consider my suggestion.A formular like Skill=a*(K/D)+b*(reputation), you can adjust the parameters a and b.
And attract more players I hope (sale, new stuff, public activities), queue time depends on player number.

I know this probably doesn't help with the situation that you would like to see changed. But in the mean time, I'd suggest spending some time in the practice arena against any characters you have the hardest time with.

Go to 'How to Play', then 'Duel Practice' and before clicking, scroll to the right until it says 'custom' underneath. From there, you can choose to fight any hero, at any level.

I would suggest fighting the level 3 versions if you want to get good (but work your way up if necessary). Although bots can be predictable, what sets them apart from players, is their ability to parry extremely well (the lvl3 ones) (like impossible to parry by a human well), which in time will allow you to pick up on using feint attacks effectively against players.

This will make you ready for competitive play.
