    I need some help?

So, I started playing this game around a few months ago, and I'm now level 22. I'm playing that mission where you take out the Riker's command, Larae something, idk. Anyway, the mission is level 20, and I'm using gear that is appropriate for my level, well at least I think so. My lowest level gun that I have equipped is level 16, is a PP-19, and has somewhere around 8600 DPS. My highest is level 20, a DMR, does somewhere around 6000-7000 damage/shot, around 11000 on a head shot.
So, I figure I should be good in this mission, since I've never had trouble before using a gun 2-4 levels below my level.

So, I begin the mission, and initially it seems it's going well. I'm able to take out the grunts with some difficulty, but nothing unusual. Then I get to the rooftop, and out comes Larae's first lieutenant or something along those lines. And he instantly poses an almost impassible obstacle, simply because he was almost an invincible bullet sponge. I mean, I took out the regular enemies just fine, but then this boss comes out, and soaks up somewhere around 20-25 rounds directly to the head from my DMR and a mag or two of my PP-19 before he finally goes down.

I think nothing of it at the time, thought it was just a weird spike in difficulty. So, i continue with the mission, breeze through the normal enemies pretty easily, and then I reach the boss. Larae, and her two guards, which are identical to the previous boss I took out on the rooftop. I literally used one turrets, which puts out somewhere around 500 damage/round, that medi gun ability with the mod that increases my damage for a small time, and my talent which further increases my damage after a cover to cover move. In theory, this combination should allow me to open up and destroy one of the guards right?

Nope. I peek out, and instantly get two shotted by the guard and his trusty "M249 Para". I think, well maybe if I try it a different way, it might work out differently. I think I spent maybe an hour or so just on that one boss fight, trying to figure out how to get it done, before I finally realized it was impossible, and somewhere, and some point, I went terribly wrong. Could any of you guys help me? I'm not bashing the game, I genuinely enjoy it, but I just don't understand why the bosses are such bullet sponges to me right now, I mean in the past I was able to take out such bosses pretty easily at lower levels.

You were fighting, what the game describes as, tanks, given the shield icons placed next to their health bar. They soak up damage and dish out some hefty damage. There is a downside to them, though: they have a "weak point" on their backpacks.

It is a small red ammo box on their book bags. Once you pop these weak points, they are put into, what you can consider a stun state. They don't shoot back (For the most part. In some cases, they can be knocked out of the stun state, and move around and shoot you, but I think that isn't intended) and they take a lot of damage over time. Try to get a good vantage point and If you have some flash grenades, use them to buy you some time to take out their weak points.

Another way of doing it, if you got to Larae and you are lvl 22, that probably means you skipped side missions along the way. You could go back and do those side missions, and revisit Larae at lvl 24.

I am just an average player but based on my experience you are under powered. The level 20's missions are tough. I just recently completed it with a level 20 but most of my gear is superior (DPS 22k with AR and SMG) due to the benefit of it being my 5th run through. I recommend at least blue gear at the story level or yours. If you are on PSN feel free to add; the one toon is still at 20. langfordrocks. Good luck.
