For those who missed it; Today's Warrior's Den had a very special guest; The For Honor writer, Ariadne ican'tspellherlastname.
The way they worded it, I got the impression she's the only(?) writer currently on For Honor, though she mentioned working with Jason VandenBerghe (whom I sorely miss on the team) for the Story Mode, and another guest writer joining her for a bit later on post launch.
Fun as her visit was, she never delved into any new lore. Or any kind of real lore, the whole visit was basically just telling the stories behind some funny bot names, and easter eggs in the Story Mode.
It just sort of cements how little effort or care is given to For Honor's lore, which has now made me very sad.
For the most part yeah. For Honor's Story Mode is, to put it bluntly from a gameplay perspective, an over-glorified tutorial. Barely skimmed the surface of what story elements there was in there, as I was finishing all three faction campaigns. It was Archo-Vax's thread here that actually provided a solid framework, background, and backstory that logically tied all elements and timelines together. And gave actual importance to For Honor's story, outside of Apollyon's warmongering that eventually led to her stronghold being stormed by both Vikings and Samurai (which is all the gameplay side was).Originally Posted by Tundra 793 Go to original post
I sincerely hope they release Expansion Packs for the Story Mode. With, of course, deeper lore to explore.
Which is the case with most multiplayer oriented games. Personally, I'd rather have no story mode, than a lazy one.Originally Posted by Fady117 Go to original post
I remember the outrage from gamers that the first (new) Star Wars Battlefront didn't have a single player campaign, but if we'd have gotten just another BF3/BF4/For Honor esque "story", I'd rather make do without one.
If something's worth doing, it's worth doing right.
Couldn't agree more. I did get the impression at one point, that the writer tried to include more dialogue, and like, actual character progression, depth and world building.Barely skimmed the surface of what story elements there was in there, as I was finishing all three faction campaigns. But they had to cut back on it.
We should start a petition on Reddit for it.I sincerely hope they release Expansion Packs for the Story Mode. With, of course, deeper lore to explore.
It's such a shame that they have an actual writer on the team, whose chief job seems to be coming up with meme names for Bots...
True that. The first ever time I experienced this, was in COD MW3. Being a singleplayer kind of guy, I went straight for its campaign first before going multiplayer. Left a strong sour taste in my mouth. BF3 was bit better, but still eh. Killzone still beats both in campaign. Killzone's campaigns were actually decent, save for maybe 2 chapters per game where all you had to do was empty ammo clips repeatedly at some number of enemy waves and that's it.Originally Posted by Tundra 793 Go to original post
Well said.Originally Posted by Tundra 793 Go to original post
I'd happily support this, if it ever gets put up on the For Honor Reddit. Perhaps just then, the devs might finally take notice and care a bit more about For Honor's campaign. And yeah... humor me. I wasn't even aware For Honor had a lead writer. Because, For Honor's Story Mode didn't really reflect that there were writers behind it who had carefully sewn its clockwork and depth. It was.... the tip of the iceberg.Originally Posted by Tundra 793 Go to original post
Yeah Ariadne said as much with the Siv cutscene, pretty much having to grin and bear RAAAAIIIIIDEEEEERRRR becoming a meme on the shop floor so to speak.Originally Posted by Tundra 793 Go to original post

Honestly I'm surprised it wasn't Sif, since that's an actual Norse name.Originally Posted by CandleInTheDark Go to original post
The word Sif reminds me of the great grey wolf boss in Dark Souls... it was there where I had heard it first time. The association of that name with that boss has been forever solidified in my head.Originally Posted by Tundra 793 Go to original post
I should read up more on Norse mythology.
