has anybony entered training mode versus assassins with highlander? for **** sake. against assassins he es completely useless. I usually don't complain about the devs, but God... his armour on heavy is useless because he gets hit 99% of cases, getting from defensive to offensive takes so much time you get hit 90%of the times you try to (not to say if you try to do that outside of a combo) his every move is so slow that he gets hit or GB almost every time you try to initiate an attack after he performs a GB I don't know about others but every assassin can recover faster than he can land an attack (except for the useless first light) his heavy cancel is so slow he gets hit half the time you try to cancel, or GB even more of the opponent does a heavy faint GB, he literally has only 2 attack in ofdensive mode (some offensive mode that is its actually more offensive the defensive stance) and his ONLY GOOD MOVE wich is celtic curse cant be fainted wich results in a allmost guaranteed GB. every assassin can get out of his offensive heavy cancel kick cancel grab, don't know about others yet.
why in God's name didn't you made him so that he gets in offensive mode on fast double tap heavy?
why does his armor starts so late in the attack because it kinda makes the armour 50/50 useless?
why is he so slow in switching stances (predictable from a mile away)?
why isn't Celtic curse faintable?
why are his kick grab in offensive only?
why does the defensive mode has way better attacks than the offensive mode and a lot more (it defies the offensive defensive definitions of the names?
and I get that you can't defend in offensive. but really. no parryes no blocks no dodges no counter guard brakes?
and why in God's name can he be interrupted from everi single attack with a gb?
try and play in training, at custom, lvl 3 ofc, against shinoby or berserker. berserker can kill you from full health even with one life bar left
ive played like 5 or 6 hours in training, amd im not a bad player trust me. llaying for some time. and i got thenhang of highlander and i love him. but hes 75% downsides 15%upsides and10%pure luck
I've played Highlander exclusively since he was released, and I'm about to hit rep 5 in a few hours of more playing. (I just graduated college and no job yet so I'm a bit of a shut-in).
He' balanced for the most part. He's not easy to learn, and his entire kit revolves around his mixups between defensive and offensive stance.
You say that it takes forever to switch stances and that it's easy to read, but if you're the right distance away you can switch to offensive, cancel it back into defensive, then parry the quick attack your opponent tries to land on you (this nets either a light attack or a guard break if you're willing to unlock it). Also, from a guard break, you get a guaranteed zone attack which you can cancel after the first hit, and this is enough to kill someone at their lowest regenerative health level. It does roughly the same amount of damage as a heavy.
As for the hyper armor and celtic curse, I generally avoid overusing celtic curse because most people at my level have already learned to parry it on reaction so it's very risky. The only time I'll ever use it freely is if my opponent likes to trade light attacks for the damage, as I can go aggressively into offensive stance from it.
I could keep going on because Highlander is a complex character that takes a lot of experience to master, and even I haven't gotten close to truly mastering the strategy with him.
I think this is honestly (as much as I hate saying it) one of those "git gud" situations, but I'll put it nicer than that. Play him some more, try something you haven't tried before, and occasionally you'll find something that nobody is expecting and it'll work out. Keep your head up!
I'm not saying this character is bad. he's awesome and I love him. and if I wasn't playing only on training since release I would have been rep 3 with him 2. I'm just saying that he is missing something. I actually don't mind the hit his implied here since he is every hard to msster. but I'm a decent 65-70% of perfect mastering.. . sort of speech. but from all the things I added in the first post/thread, I'm not sayingapply them all. but so least one of them so we can have an mk4 shame possibility for an oppener. like the celtic curse and celtic curse cancel into side... we should be able to cancel celtic curse side cancel into neutral since it's to predictable. if not at the very least let us cancell only the celtic curse top... and if I'm on this topic, we should be able to cancel the celtic curse into side heavy further into the move, not only at the befinning. (not saying that we shou9 be able to do it at the last moment like that damn raider can... but at least further in the move so the side can represent a small treath)
and as a last thing to ad... I'm totally against unlocking to perform moves, so I hope I won't brake down in the future to resort to this. this is a cheep tactic fore all characters and should be taken out with a soft update as soon as it's noticed
Against assassin you may have to rely more on the crushing counter. It does a good amount of damage and can flow into heavy. Assassin is going to dodge so a sideways heavy in OS into a caber toss followed up with a few more UB should make short work of them. You have 2 stances which need to be used very differently. Play defensive against fast players and not so aggressive
