So I am a fan of the game. I have been a conqueror main since the game came out. So lets break down the conquerors moves sets:
1. Light attack R1
2. Heavy Attack R2
3. Charge Heavy Holding R2.
4. Dash: moving stick in left, right, or forward
5. Dash Push: Pressing X in the dash Direction
6. Full Stance Block: Pushing back on the right joystick. (Was nerfed right before the second season of DLC)
7. Heavy Push: Which can be done in Full Block Stance or after an R2 Heavy.
Those are all his main moves with the exclusion that you can do a combo that everyone can parry Ex: R1 R1 R2
Argument #1: Small Move Set
So in comparison to all the other fighters, the Conqueror has the smallest move set. The Conqueror is very limited compared to other fighters who can feint, do bleed, stun, or like the vikings, guard break you and carry you very far to push you off a ledge. So in essence, Conqueror has little variety. Now, It has been discovered that Conqueror can feint using full block stance. But it is way too tricky to use. It uses massive stamina to do. Using full block stance will impede your stamina recover making it harder to regain your stamina. Also it is difficult, You must flick your joystick really quickly to do it. But consumes loads of stamina. Other than that the conqueror has little move sets and is very easily punished.
Argument # 2:Way too slow
Anyone who knows how to simply move or dash to the side can avoid conqueror all together. He is punished all the time. The only time a push lands is if Conqueror dodges into an attack. The heavy push is near impossible to land. It takes way too long to cast. Law bringer is fast enough to dodge all the push attacks. Now imagine the conqueror fighting a fast character. You will never land a push. Sadly that is the only move a Conqueror relies on.The conquerors light attacks are slow as well. I get parried about 80 percent of the time. The heavy is even worse. You can see the attack from a mile away. I know Conqueror is a heavy character but he is a little too heavy. For example: If I am fighting Valkyrie, Orochi, Shinobi, Centurion, Warden, Nobushi, Peacekeeper, Berserker, pretty much any fast character; it is much more difficult to block since their attack come out much faster. you have to almost predict when to parry. (Note: I am very good at parrying) but I usually end up taking a few light attacks to the face before I can block or parry sometimes. In essence, Conqueror does not have the same advantage in light attacks as most of the playable characters. The only ones that are on his level of speed are LawBringer, Shugoki, Highlander, and maybe Warlord. But even then Warlord can dish out faster attacks.
Argument # 3: Low Damage on light attacks
The Conquerors light attack does tiny damage. It is slow and does small damage. Unlike Warden or Valkyrie who can dish 2 light attacks, the conqueror only dishes one light attack with a huge parry risk factor. It is almost not even worth throwing it out. If you compare his damage to all the other fighters, his is one of the worst.
Argument # 4: Chasing Fast Characters.
This one sounds weird. So obviously a big character can't chase a faster character. What I mean is that when a fast character is almost dead, they run away or constantly back away from the fight to get their little portion of health back. The conqueror has the hardest time to finish these guys off. It is annoying. Light attacks do not finish them off. It takes 3-4 light attacks. The only way to kill them is by using a heavy which is really difficult to land if you are fighting a really fast character. Fast characters back away and as Conqueror tries to get closer they wait for a dash and quickly light attack two times. They are too fast and you usually end up taking the hits. If Conqueror gets lucky he will land a light attack leaving the opponent with slightly less health. The fast character will rinse and repeat. They will just wait and pick you off while regenerating their little health. On the contrary the Conqueror cannot back away and try to heal because he is too slow. The healing factor really sucks for Conqueror. They can't finish their opponents. Honestly there should be no healing at all in my opinion but I know many do not like that. Healing would be okay in 4 v 4s or Dominion since its a game mode with power ups but in a 1V1 or Brawl, they should eliminate being able to heal that little slab back cause then it just turns into a goose chase and is unfavorable for slower characters who cannot dash 50 feet away from their opponent.
Argument # 5: Full Block Stance Nerf
They nerfed the full block stance that really made it useless. It is almost not even worth using it anymore. It is understandable as to why they did it cause it was used as a panic button and would save you a lot. But now you are gonna take 2 guaranteed hits after you cast it. It should really be 1 hit. 2 is kinda excessive. Too much of a punish.
Argument # 6: Low tier Character
Conqueror remains at the bottom of the list when it comes to character rankings. He is even statistically speaking the worst character.
Solutions: So perhaps, increasing his attack speed a little would help or maybe increase his light attack damage. There is the possibility of adding more moves to the character. Allow for easier canceling and mix ups. A more reasonable stamina pool where applicable. Any thing could help. I am not saying all of these should happen but these are just suggestions. I just would like everyone to try this character out and see for themselves and help give potential solutions.
So compare the Conqueror to all the other playable characters, and you can clearly see that he needs some adjustments. Of course he should not be OP but should be a more formidable foe. Thank you all who read this and please let me know what you think. But before you write counter arguments please use Conqueror and try using him competitively. Also factual evidence would be more appreciated for a more sincere argument. I can also provide footage of my play style and am proud to say I have mastered this character pretty well. Thank you all again.
