Why are we not allowed to talk about Bans?
I apologize if this leads South, but why can't we talk about Bans? I don't know what kind of dictatorship you live in, but I was raised an individual is innocent till proven guilty, at which point he or she will be judged by a jury of their piers.
This is general discussion and in these forums I am a pier. I understand the CMs have a job to do, but we see someone banned and we ask hey what happened? The BOOM! a CM jumps in and makes some huge statement about "We don't discuss bans! Thread CLOSED!"
I mean if I do something wrong give a statement on why I was banned. Heck, you can't find a game that if a penalty is accrued, that the refs don't give everyone a heads up on why you are being given a timeout.
Or is it that Ubi/Massive, given their track record, so sure that they know they are wrong that they just don't want us to know they are wrong about something else?
Because it's really none of your/our business?Originally Posted by YodaMan 3D Go to original post
Whatever happened is between the person and the mods/admins, so I think we should respect that and let them deal with it in private.
I think the community often jumps to the conclusion that it must be something personal between certain users and staff members, some kind of "beef", but it's entirely possible (and indeed most likely) that the person simply triggered an automated ban, after exceeding a certain number of warning points for a few minor infractions built up over time.
*shrug*
I say just let the team do their job.
We do not discuss bans for a number of reasons. Firstly, a banned user may not want the reason for their ban published. This is a private matter and is between Ubisoft and the banned user. We notify the player detailing the reason for their ban.
Discussions about bans can also lead to arguments between other users on the forums.
This is also outlined in our forum rules here
To quote the rules:
"Moderation actions – These are not a topic for public discussion, if you have a serious issue to raise with moderation actions taken against you or in general, please contact a Community Manager. Flaming moderators or their actions (this includes telling them how to moderate) is no more acceptable than insulting a regular user. We ask that moderators receive the same civil treatment as other forum members as they put in a lot of time and effort into these forums. If you need to contact a moderator or community manager, you can view that forum’s moderator list under its title (e.g. Splinter Cell) on the main forum index."
