Why do unidad helicopters just randomly fly past my location whether I'm free roaming or doing a mission, then suddenly spot me while I'm in a bush wearing a ghillie suit, now 'Unidad patrol is on alert' and my whole game is ruined...
Why? Why do they always have to get involved with everything and be everywhere? It is not a fun experience.
For example i was at one of those small rebel base things in the mountains and a unidad helicopter kept flying past and spotting me, i destroyed it and another kept coming and coming.
Also, why are alerted enemies able to take about 4/5 sniper rifle rounds to the head then get up and run to another spot? I thought this game is supposed to be realistic??
You have a GPS tracker that was implanted into you when you joined the Ghost Ops. The Unidad & Santa Blanca have found a way to hack into the signal and can now see your every move.
On a serious note, if you are standing up or running in the middle of nowhere with a gun that would look suspicious as the choppers are patrolling. Whether you are in a bush or not does not matter because the AI cannot distinguish between the bush as a solid/semi-solid surface, similar to long grass.
You have to lay down to avoid being spotted by choppers. Kneeling, even, in foliage gets you spotted. Lay down and wait for the patrolling chopper to pass.
If you're already hunted or engaged they will switch on their thermal or infrared cameras and spot you anyway. You have to destroy the chopper and move once they are onto you.
Yeah, that's how they programmed the Unidad, believe it or not. There have been many times where we've run off into the woods trying to get away from them, and literally as soon as you blow up one helo, another one spawns immediately to take its place. If you have the mini-map on you can actually see them spawn right within your engagement zone. There have even been times when we've run out of ammo with every gun after having blown up so many of them. And then we usually just quit because the game becomes so stupid.Originally Posted by BULLET_357 Go to original post
I mean, how many $10 million choppers do these guys have anyway? And why don't they have to come from a much greater distance away, instead of being able to spawn nearly right on top of you every time no matter where you are? Once that happens it's like an arcade game with no immersion or realism whatsoever.
Hey, that's an interesting tidbit there. I honestly didn't know the Unidad helos used thermal/infrared optics when I'm in 'hunted' or 'engaged' mode. That explains some frustrating experiences I've had trying to evade them. Just out of curiosity, where can I find info that outlines the optics and search capabilities of the Unidad forces? I haven't seen anything like that around.Originally Posted by AI BLUEFOX Go to original post
And yeah, going prone is the most reliable method to avoid detection in the first place, irregardless of foliage and cover. If I hear a Unidad helicopter in the area I make sure to locate it and then hit the dirt if I need to. The frustrating part is that the Unidad patrolling helos seem to be scripted to do a direct flyover of my position no matter where I'm located. They're in a generic patrol pattern, and then they suddenly make a sharp turn and fly directly over my position. Forcing me to stop what I'm doing and drop until they pass. If this was a somewhat rare occurrence it wouldn't be an issue, but the frequency this happens can get annoying after a while. Is a Jedi piloting that chopper, can he 'sense' my presence?
Well, they aren't really using thermal and infrared, since they can see the us in situations where we can't even see them with the thermal (like being completely concealed in the bushes under the jungle canopy). They're just programmed to see you extremely easily in certain situations. Going prone indeed makes your detection less likely, but in some instances they will see you no matter what, even if it would seem impossible.Originally Posted by DevilSpike Go to original post
Not seen any specific game info. I just assumed the pod under the cockpits were FLIR units like the one shown below, and have no idea why some people think they wouldn't have this capability. It would make no sense for the choppers not to have imaging cameras.Originally Posted by DevilSpike Go to original post
We kind of get away with too much by being able to lay down, but it's a gameplay balance mechanic. The patrol chopper comes over you to force you to go prone.

What do you think the pods are if not FLIR gear? Also Foliage will obscure more when close than when from afar.Originally Posted by SERPENT 1333 Go to original post
