I had an idea about whether or not parrying should be possible in OOS.
simply put: yes, but...
Proposal 1: When OOS, parrying is basically the same as a superior block. It stops any chain but doesn't drain the opponents stamina. It stops your own stamina regeneration.
-> Parrying in OOS = same as superior block when not OOS.
Does blocking a light attack stop the chain when OOS? Do light attacks do chip damage? If so, there might be another, lower level to parrying in OOS.
Proposal 2: When OOS, parrying will completely negate heavy damage, not stop the chain, but stop the chain on light attacks. It stops your own stamina regeneration. It does not drain enemy stamina.
-> Parrying in OOS = same as normal block when not OOS.
Maybe the superior block model for characters with shields?
In that case, chip damage should kill. Also that way you can open up your opponents by using feints when they are OOS. because if they take the bait, they will be slow as hell, giving you all the time you need to punish that parry attempt. Obviously I wouldn't be able to make a comeback or come out of this situation with an advantage when parrying.
The question is: Do I parry and take the risk, or do I just block and take the damage?
I think this will even the odds a bit more. Yes, OOS should be scary, but you should be able to pull out of it relatively unharmed, if you are skilled enough. If the out of stamina state is be too dangerous I will immediately leave any match that has a centurion in it. Cause that sh!t ain't fair.
I actually had an idea very similar to this one for the OOS parrying! I'm glad that it seems to be what some people are looking toward.
I thought about making parrying while OOS just prevent your stamina from halting from guarding, as well as reducing the chip damage taken by a percentage. This way, you can still bait parries, and parries are still very profitable for OOS players, as you'll leave OOS faster by parrying. Along with the PTS 2 model, I feel that this small change would benefit the game greatly, as you aren't completely vulnerable while OOS and still feel like you have options to defend yourself besides just sitting there and taking chip damage because there's no reason to dodge and get thrown to the ground for even more damage.
However much I don't want to admit it, if this kind of thing goes through, chip damage will need to be fatal. Otherwise at low hp there's no incentive to parry attacks while OOS.
I like this idea but chip damage should not kill.
The reason I like proposal 1/2 is the fact that out of stamina is going to happen. And there are too many characters that have unbreakables you simply cant dodge out of. Mainly the raider. You cant dodge to escape a raiders zone attack. Spamability at its finest. Or centurions 2nd heavy . you can dodge but it tracjs too well to make that even count half the time
When we introduce chip damage with the start of S3, chip damage will not be lethal as it currently stands.
As for the parry changes, thank you for the feedback - I'll pass it along since we're currently working through a ton of different opinions and suggestions regarding the OOS-parry changes and are looking to find the best solution to the problem.
