We have just announced that on August 29th we’ll invite some players to Ubisoft Annecy for a 3 days workshop to discuss a series of topics with our developers. As you can imagine, it’s not possible to invite everyone but we really want to hear all your opinions.
Let’s start today with:
- Competitive events, Tournaments and rewards improvements
In-game tournaments like the Steep World Tour are an important element of Steep. On July 21st we have started the Season 2 with a lot of improvements from the previous one (more players can access the final, each series aims to have a different flavour, cosmetic reward for the winner etc.).
What do you think about those events? What kind of new events would you like to see implemented? Are you happy with all rewards? Let us know down below!

Okay here is my thoughts on the Competitive Competitions:
*Steep World Tour*:
Currently The Steep World Tour's are broke up into 3 stages, Qualifiers, tournament, and the Finals.
Personally I really enjoy where this is at right now, but maybe some slight changes and some more satisfying rewards could make this truly amazing!
Here are some suggestions:
- I would really love to see the Winners of the Last series on the screen where it says "there is no world tour going on right now, come back when one is in progress"
- Or maybe even one step further with a leaderboard of the top competitors with the most wins in that season through-out all the series. If that is not possible. Or Your personal SWT Stats in your player profile page! (What ranking last series, Personal Best Ranking etc.)
- It would be really awesome, If Ubisoft could put out a article on their website, reddit, or forums of all 64 Players rankings in the finals after the tournament - Because it seems like at the moment only the top 3 players gets their names out there. It would be interesting to see all the scores and what scores could get you into the top 10 etc.
- Better rewards, I would love to see some Rewards that make me jealous, and make me say WOW that was worth all the grinding! In my opinion, right now the rewards are great, but could be better. Personally I want something that sticks out, and makes people ask me how I got it. The helmets are great, but I think their could be more there.
- I had this thought a while ago, and it has actually gotten a lot better since then, but I will say it anyways. Back when only the top 32 people were eligible for the finals in the tournament phase, I was thinking that the Qualifiers should be much harder then just Gold on the map. Because think about it, It would suck for it to be really easy to qualify just to get absolutely rekt in the next phase, it would really get the players hopes down for such a huge skill jump. But now it is Top 64 which makes it a lot easier to get in, which means it's a smaller jump from qualifiers to tournament!
*In-General All-Time Scores:*
-How awesome would it be if Sleds, Ski, and Snowboard all had separate leaderboards? This would honestly be so fun going for scores in a sled, and would actually add a lot of content and things to do!
*Prize Competitions*
- Personally I love them! My only advice would be is more, more! But honestly I can't really think of any criticism, just more prizes and more thinks to work for!
This is the things that I thought of right away, if I have any more things come to mind, I will edit or post again!
Hopefully my information is some what valuable!
Hi all,
obZen D F here:
Feedback:
First of all let me give one point of feedback that is concerning: The team needs to handle their prizes better. I still haven't received my GoPro from the Super Yeti challenge and at this point I have the feeling I will never receive it. I have sent emails but the answer was to wait it out basically, and the other emails I sent I haven't gotten a response to. It's been more than a month now. I would like it if this gets sorted out quickly, because I rightfully earned the GoPro through hard work, and the other 2 Super Yeti winners received their prize long ago already. This is very unfair to me. I hope you will give me some answers to this problem.
Onto the other feedback:
I think splitting up the World Tour in 5 different categories spread throughout 6 months is a great improvement! And including race events as well. However, it would be nice if there will be a tactical racing world tour, going through checkpoints similar to the Super Yeti, but now focusing on at least 3 races, or even more. Additionally, another idea for a competition could be creative lines, where players score points by riding reliefs and such similar to those type of Freeride challenges. It would mix up the competition and gives more players a chance to win. Right now I feel the competitions have been a little one-sided, with the same group of players winning. (Except for the Nixon Watch competition)
Another point would be to have more in-game prizes available, for example the top 3 of a given competition would win cosmetic gear, with the number 1 winning a full pack of gear, and numbers 2 and 3 winning only two, or one piece of gear.
Feedback for competitive in general:
I wish the leaderboards were a little more expanded upon. For example: Showcase the Top 10 of a challenge, instead of only the all-time best/weekly/daily. This would push people to strive for a position in the top 10, instead of players not even trying because the all-time best is too hard for them. Also, implement a gradual scoring penalty for freestyle when repeating tricks. Right now, the scoring world records are very boring and repetitive to watch, to the point where it's not even impressive anymore. (Nosegrab until finish)
Another thing I wanted to point out is that there needs to be some regulation on the World Tour where players who own STEEP on all platforms shouldn't be able to compete on all platforms. Players like Mstifye (no offence to you mister!) and others basically have 6! attempts for the Finals, 2 attempts for each platform. This is wholly unfair to us players who only have 2 attempts tops. The chances of winning the World Tour for these players is 200% higher than us. I understand that it is practically impossible to regulate such things, but Mstifye and others could just jump right over from PC to Xbox or PS4 if they failed their finals on PC. In real life tournaments you don't see a Skier failing his finals and then having 4 attempts more than his fellow Skiers. I hope you take this into account.
Hope this helps![]()
Something that I have been thinking about SWT is instead of using events in the game, use community created challenges instead of using ones already in game. I feel that it would be much more challenging not knowing what runs would be used. I feel it would have much more depth using someones challenge to add more variety.
To continue on from Mstifye, I agree with rewards with something that stands out. Be it a costume or a set of skis or snowboard that no-one has.
Hi this is /u/oversteppe
It would be really fun to have a freestyle competition in feature-rich areas:
Qualifiers @ Ortle's Ultra Natural
Tournament @ Kirchenkogel's Ultra Natural
Finals @ Red Bull Ultra Natural
That type of tournament would be so much fun. That and a creative line tournament. I also agree with everyone else about having more cosmetic rewards. Now I'm not sure how this is possible but I think being able to start just past or to the side of the start, or mid-run, to get 3,000x practice runs in before you take your ten runs for Tournament or three for Finals is kinda like cheating. It shouldn't allow heli drops anywhere along the challenge line or area so people really go into these things without practice, like everyone did IRL for the Red Bull Supernatural that Travis Rice held. Nobody got a single practice run on those features. If we could do that with these tournaments it would make them a lot more competitive imo. Going in blind would reward the best player, not the person that puts the most practice time in
SORRY I DONT SPEAK ENGLISH

I'm going to throw out an idea that could take Competitive Events and Rewards in a whole new direction, or at least another way to play the game.
Why not do something similar to what the Ghost Recon Wildlands Devs do and have a new Solo and Community Challenge every week or two with unique rewards specific to that challenge only.
Solo - A specific challenge in which you complete on your own that unlocks a reward. An example Solo challenge could be: Within X amount of minutes jump and land over X amount of gaps. After you complete the challenge you are rewarded with an unique item specific only to that Challenge. You can only get the reward if you complete the Challenge.
Community Challenge - Have a pre determined amount of tasks the whole community can contribute to achieving. For Example: Perform X amount of 2000 point or more tricks, meaning, for every trick you land that gives you 2000 points it's added towards the amount of 2000 point tricks the Community needs to win that Challenge. And again, if the Community completes that challenge the whole Community is able to receive a specific reward.
I know this idea is completely different than the current Tournament and Competitive Events but I thought I would just throw out the idea and see if anyone was interested in possibly adding more variety to the current system.
The rewards need to be truly unique and worthwhile otherwise players wouldn't be interested.
Thanks.
A reason not to just spin as much as possible. (Reward smoothness of jump/landing, penalise repetition, incentivise variety including big 180's and 360's)
- currently, the best way to score in any trick challenge is just to spin as much as possible. not only is it incredibly unrealistic, but incredibly repetitive. There is no incentive to try a lazy 360 over a 50 foot gap when you score more for throwing down a 1440 all the time. Similarly there is currently no reward for smoothness of landing or punishment (apart from eventually falling over if your G meter gets too high) for heavy landings. Both execution and difficulty should contribute to score, like big air/gymnastics/diving competitions in real life.
Leaderboards for races.
- a leaderboard system for race challenges similar to trick challenges that tell you exactly what poition you are. Currently you can only see your position among friends and if you are 1st of day/week/all time
Split times for checkpoint races.
- exactly as they do in real life for winter sports races (+ or - times highlighted in green or red for each sector)
Slip stream for possible future races
- The ability to race other players realtime, and a slipstream system implemented
Easter egg hunt to enable lower skill players to win prizes
- It will get very frustrating for casual players to keep seeing the same competetive players winning all the prizes in competitions. An "easter egg hunt" around the mountain or similar ideas that will give players of all skill level an equal chance of winning prizes
