Atm the minions you fight with seem to depend on the thematic stage of the faction war, i.e.: whether you'll be blue or red and on which map you're fighting.
My suggestion is that it shouldn't be like this.
I chose the Knights to be the faction I fight for. I can fight with any Hero I choose(think mercs), but because of that faction choice, shouldn't the minion I fight alongside with be Knights?
Of course, then there is the issue where different faction members may be on the same team. While that's an entirely another issue, not easily solved, I don't see why it should be a problem for this suggestion.
If I'm not mistaken all the minions have the same hitbox (and if they don't... why?), regardless of faction. Therefore those minions could be said to be interchangeable.
As such, why not just make it so that the decision regarding which minion models to spawn is made either on the player's machine and/or so that it follows whichever faction the player is a member of.
I feel like this will make for a more immersive experience, because tbh as a Knight, I don't really want to be slaughtering my brethren, I would prefer to commit genocide upon the filthy weebs and neckbeards.
TL;DR:
- Change the decision-making regarding what side the player will be fighting on in a match (minion models, shields, etc.) so that it follows their chosen Faction.
- Make it so that the side the player fights on in a match is distinct from other players' on the same team.
- This is to complement the first point, so that a Samurai-factioned player will have Samurai minion models loaded, while a Knight-factioned player will have Knight minion models loaded, and they both can still be on the same team insofar as matchmaking is concerned.
Bump.
I was thinking this exact same thing yesterday as i was playing. I hate that i chose samurai as a faction and then have knight minions on my side as i kill samurai minions. I think it would still be ok to choose the enemy faction based on where you are. But the having mismatched minions on your side breaks the illusion of being in a war between factions that you have chosen a side on.
I dont know how they currently have it set up but at some point your local console or pc needs to know what models to display. couldn't you make that just reference your chosen faction for your side and then have the for honor server let your machine know what to render for the opposing faction? I imagine it would have to be set up kinda like that already. (I've been working on building small to moderate game engines for about 10 years now)
Please no bump - forum rules .
I think custom minion skins would be a cool idea too so I'll bring it forth to the team.
