Why doesn't the GRN page load in the background after logging in?

This new trend in website design is beyond annoying. PSN does this, a webmail client I use for work does this, and now GRN, too.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, it's when you type in a URL, click a link or select a bookmark in your browser, and then switch to another tab. You'd expect that page to load in the background while you're browsing something else, right? Well, that's not what happens. It only loads up a "website loading" animation, a sort of progress bar, and stops there until you switch to that tab to make it active. Only then does the website proper start to load up. And GRN takes so long to go from that "progress bar" stage to being usable it feels like I'm back in the days of dial-up internet connections.

Not seeing that problem using Google Chrome. Page loads in back ground and loads in less than 10 seconds.

Interesting. I just checked on Chrome, and you're right, the page does load in an inactive tab.
Must be a Firefox specific problem then.

I forget the exact option but you need to check and make sure that the background refresh of the tabs is set otherwise it won't work. It might have switched the feature off in one of the recent updates. I'm not sure exactly though because I'm still using v51 for plugin support as I need it for work purposes

Apparently Firefox removed the option that used to allow for enabling this.

Thanks for the source on that! I was unable to reproduce the problem on Chrome or Edge and was wondering what was causing the issue.
