In-game music only, in every game I've ever played.

Yes that is annoying. Some kid playing loud music in their bedroom that comes over distorted. Horrid. Then you mute them and the tactical game talk is broken.

Luckily, most of the folks I play with nowadays are friends I have networked with and are all adults like me (~30s - 50s). Might get the occasional wife or kid noise in the background but that's about it. .....public matchmaking is a whole other story and why I stopped even trying.

I think I know what you mean its like when you're watching a movie at home or at the cinema. People making stupid comments or noises with there food or beverage.
With games on the other hand its only when I want to try something new and only with music that I think would go well with the game. Depends on the game too of course like games like assassins creed were radios/mp3 I pad etc... don't exist yet is just not compatible with other music than the in game one.
