The I-survived-the-event thread... and some opinions

I reached the 35K needed for the last award last night... only spent about 140 gems overall (10/day on the "reduce wait timer to 2 hours" booster).

I still have a day or two to get my alt-ids into the 35K zone as well, but it wont be much longer. (Wont be doing my alt-ids any more after this event; they served their purpose ages ago and its past time I set them aside... just too much trouble)

Overall... it was a typical grindy Frontier event. For me, any challenge there was to getting good rep totals... was far overshadowed by the fact that I figured out what to do on day 1 and then had to do it a nauseating number of times across the same 10 tracks.. for DAYS ON END.... to reach the goal. Would have really appreciated more variety. I tried to add some additional challenge by making sure I could get 100 rep on every track with Silver (no extra boosts other than reducing wait time)... then went to gold... but simply lost interest when doing Gold. . . .

I definitely give RL a big thank-you for the "booster" set of options in the event; it really was helpful, and quite reasonably priced, gem-wise.

Interesting stats on IOS event LB
    =================================
Time left in event: 9.5 days
    Total IOS players: 93400
Number of people at 35K right now: 195
Top 5% would be: rank 4670 or or better (will get wider over time)
Score at rank 4670: 7676 (almost certainly not going to make 35K)
Score at rank 850: 19000 (I feel these people might be on track to make 35K)

So... 850 people MIGHT complete the event. If you reach 35K now... you can stop and have no fear of dropping out of top 5%.

This is similar to an earlier event arranged like this (ie its harder to reach the final goal than to be in the top 5%). BUt I do believe the number of "active" players seriously trying to reach the end i smaybe not as high as before? (hard to recall)

Feel free to give your event opinions, tell us how you are doing on the event, maybe someone show the state of the Android stats, etc.

I feel that this event undermines the basic premise of the game, which is to "be the best rider" or "find your perfect line" through the course. Instead of being rewarded, riding skill and perfect landings are often penalized with a pile of bombs in the face. What is rewarded apparently, is "gaming the game". It's not particularly fun and goes on way too long without any sort of story progression.

While I appreciate an attempt to come up with a new idea, breaking the core of the game isn't the way to do it.

You're complaining about bombs with the same arguments you could use against saws and ramps. It has already been proved that one can do the tracks with speed and agility. A perfect landing into a pile of bombs is simply not a perfect landing. You have to consider bombs as an obstacle in the game as many others, and your ability to avoid them is what can qualify you or not as "the best rider".

But certainly, in this event it is not enough to be the best rider, you have to be it around 350 times. And this is no fun. In other events, like the Rallies, one could theoretically set a top score in 10 runs and be the first for the week. This approach is not possible now.

My point is that the bad thing in this event (for me) is not the gameplay which can be fun, but the excessive grinding factor together with the very low variety of tracks.

pretty much summing the previous comments, i think that they we at the verge of something cool and fun, but made it too long and too grindy!

having only a few tracks also doesn't help, as by having to get rep almost 400 times we will without any doubt have to race some of the tracks 40 times or more.

also, tricks and skill should be more important than 354 backflips, less bombs, and the ones that existed should be "defeated" by taking the best riding line or so (kind of like as in one of the previous treasure hunts). in some parts we still have that **, as a bunny hop, or some timed braking or speeding up can make wonders, but in other places... bombs in the middle of a long straight line... what should we do? there's no challenge, just go into them, no other option

but kudos on trying something new, hope they can see the good and bad parts of it and make the next one better. and especially the boosters, useful and at a reasonable price!

**example: i particularly like how we can overshoot the loop on "cannon ridge" so we don't touch the bombs inside it, getting again on track behind it, but with a new path open

That's a great example of one positive aspect of this event. However, I never managed better than bronze using that method (at least, not without earning acceptable #rep). Doing a bunch of flips at the end was just as effective and less prone to failure. By the time I hit 7k points my focus was on getting rep as quickly as possible, didn't care how elegant (or ugly) the approach was. Really glad this event is "over", I hope the next one isn't so repetitive.

other thing that pis***, erm, bothers me is that most of the time (or it's just me that look like Bad Luck Brian when it comes to loot wheel?) it's better to just do silver than gold or platinum

i find myself braking before the finish sometimes if the time is "too good", because for gold or plat i win the extra rep points 1/50 times or so :s

the loot wheel is already "rigged" (not really, but it does exist in an alternative reality where bad luck rules), and on top of that making the gold/plat "slices" smaller kinda goes against the game core. if one can -even with bombs and stuff- put up a good time it should be a good thing, but the way it is... silver rules!

I was a bit loose at the start of the event, so the grind is very real for me if I'm to reach 35k. On 22k now so need around 1500 a day.

This means I need to use impatience perk every day. Luckily I sit in a different office to my boss so he doesn't notice my 10 minute toilet breaks every 2 hours. That is the worst part of the event for me, it's completely relentless! The wife has had a few things to say as well... I feel like I'm always rushing to complete the 3 tracks so when a line of bombs drops on my head at the end of the track I just want to smash my phone!

All in all, I think a week or two would've been better, or less rep needed over 4. Xitooner doing 3 characters you deserve some sort of award!!!

Yep, you described me as well; the frequent toilet breaks... the wife who wants me to look at her and not my phone.... fortunately I tend to live on 4-5 hours of sleep, which helped a lot too.

I think we've both earned the "Golden Toilet" award.

On my way to 35k reps, did take a couple of days break, didn't thought I would complete it but yeah the impatient booster did help, still could do only 4 rounds with booster on.
