So.... can't help but notice that there are nearly four times as many registrants for the PS4 version as the PC version, yet the PC version is getting a lot more of the prize pool. Xbox as well, has many, many more than PC.
I... uh.... don't think that's really right. At all.
Whoever does well in the console versions is going to have to do a heck of a lot more work to get their placement and potentially stands to gain nothing for it. Don't suppose we can get a revision on the prizes?
How poorly they treat console was one thing that really irked me about the devs. The majority of the games playerbase and revenue is from console yet it's constantly an after thought.
But I guess as long as console people keep wupporting their decisions why would they change.
In terms of showing off footage I can understand why they would want to showcase PC gameplay more. Simply put, it runs and by extension looks better.
However that's where it ends. The PC version is actually too responsive to the point it has created the majority of the defensive meta problems that render the game unplayable for many competitive players. In team modes this can be somewhat remedied as there is more chaos which forces player action and thus resolution, but for 1v1 the console version is a far more competitive game that forces the players to make use of more elements of the game beyond simple parry reaction.
When the game launched I would see the PC and console numbers side by side, and PS4 was around double that of PC. What we're looking at currently are the competitive numbers, and its nearly four times. I believe there is a direct correlation between functionality and interest.
Not to keep throwing stones at the PC version (I own it too) I guess what I'm saying is, I don't see any reason to put the majority of the prize money in the more broken, less played version of the game. It simply does not make sense. Ideally the money should be split based on attendance numbers per platform. Barring that, an even split between all platforms.
But definitely not the majority going to PC. That's just totally backwards.
Unless the money is coming from PC equipment based sponsors, then I suppose it's difficult to complain.
