    Far Cry Weather and Such

I really like the weather in Far Cry 2 as well as the day/night cycle. The day (or night) lasted at least an hour in real time if not more. The weather included wind, rain, beautiful cloudless days or nights, a bright full moon if the sky was clear, combinations such as wind and rain, fog, humid air on hot days in the jungle or on the lakes. Swaying vegetation from wind...in short all sorts of experiences. These had an impact on detection and enemy alertness.

Now Montana is a low humidity region. For example, on a cold day in winter you can wear a sweater at 32 degrees F and feel perfectly comfortable because the humidity is so low. But it can also get brutally cold and blizzards are more probable from the snow powder and high winds. I personally experienced 55 degrees below zero (not wind chill but actual temperature) when I lived there in the 1970's. In the mountain valleys if there's a thunderstorm you get to experience rolling thunder which is really cool.

I hope the game emulates these sorts of things as much as possible. FC3 was terrible in this regard. I cannot speak of FC4 or Primal as I have yet to play them.

I hope we see dynamic weather in Far Cry 5. It would be interesting if this impacted the gameplay. e.g. If it was dark and raining then the enemies would not hear you or see you as much as if it were sunny and on a quiet day with no wind.

Yeah, hopefully there will be snowy mountain tops with strong snow storms. The occasional heavy down pour/ lightning storm and some foggy mornings & such...

I like how Sniper Elite deals with noise; if you fire your gun during a thunder clap or other loud noise, enemies won't even notice the shot. It's great fun to have to wait for a good opportunity (after the lightning flashes, prepare for an incoming rumble), so you can pull the trigger in stealth.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory had a similar system where ambient sound would mask your own pretty accurately. One mission on a tanker ship you went into the engine room and could basically run around right next to guys and they wouldn't hear it over the engine...

Rain, fog, wind - maybe thunderstorms? Just give me same as in Far Cry 2.

I have to repeat the day/night cycle is important. I don't know how well it works in FC4 or Primal but in FC3 it was very short.

Fog in Montana is rare as far as I know. It's almost always windy and the humidity factor is much lower due to the higher elevation above sea level. But like you I too want to see another FC release with the same feel that Far Cry 2 achieved. And I would also like to see improvements, some coming from the more recent games and others on the FC2 game. It could all be done.

Fog isn't especially rare, just sort of dependent on time of year, as it is more prevalent in the fall. Not especially windy either, at least not where I live, but that is something determined more by location, I know they great falls area is more known for being windy as it is set near the base of the rockies so they get all the wind coming down from the mountains. Weather isn't something I have huge hopes for, typically my thoughts on in game rain mirror my own in that I don't like it and typically try to skip it, but ...

The lack of fast travel in FC2 was much better than being able to fast travel imo. The game was much better where you had to drive places to get anywhere, the bus feature for fast travel was ok but should have been an actual journey that took some time kind of like getting a taxi in GTA
I used the fast travel in FC2 once just to see how it worked. I prefer playing games without shortcuts. The exception would be submarine simulations where cruising the ocean looking for convoys would take hours. But they have a built in feature where it comes out of accelerated time if a contact is detected.

This makes no sense to me. How is having limited or no fast travel better than the option of fast travel? I found the limited fast travel and forced driving to be tedious & one of the areas the game was most lacking. Sometimes I would only have an hour to play and could barely accomplish anything because I had to spend half an hour just getting to a destination. The option of fast travel I don't see as ever being a negative thing. If you do not like it, electing not to use it is obviously fine, but saying a lack of it was better is sort of absurd....
