I believe this is happening because Ubisoft decided to open the NAT restrictions so people with red NAT can play with those who are open, because the player base has shrunk and to speed up matchmaking times.
This is 100% a result of all the players complaining about long que times, and 110% the wrong move by Ubisoft.

Type of NAT have NOTHING to do with connection quality, you can have a green open ports nat (you only need that) and you still play with bad connection (not so prominent in the USA and other 1rst world countrys but in some others they have really bad stability)

Lag can happen for a variety of reasons. There could have been a degradation of service on either the opponents end or your end, perhaps your opponent is based in a rural area that does not have optimal connection speeds or it could be an error with the underlying connection system. Without knowing all the details involved, it's hard to diagnose the exact reason it happened in your case. If you find that it becomes a consistent problem, you can always try contacting Ubisoft Support for troubleshooting steps that could potentially improve connectivity on your end.

Taken from a reddit post " It's not a direct correlation, NAT type has no effect on a currently active connection that would cause more lag.
However, technically, it might have an indirect correlation on potential lowering the average quality connection available to you. Having a moderate/strict NAT will decrease the size of the available connection pool, and might cause you to connect to a host that might not be ideal for you. If you have an open NAT, you have a bigger selection to choose from, which is the best scenario in connecting to a good host "

In my experience people who do have strict NAT also tend to have crappy connection. You can't argue with other peoples experience.

Ever played a game when suddenly a guy dc and everyone gets kicked out? Yeah? Well, thats a bad connection with open Nat.

You have the ability to host sessions, nothing else.
