I decided to have a crack at soloing the aforementioned Lexington Armoury on my own at the Challenging difficulty and to be honest I failed.
I was able to breeze through the opening and past the first heavy, but as soon as I reached the rooftop, before you free the JTF agent, I stalled.
I tried my high Firearms/DPS 4 Predator-2 HE build, I tried my pure Skill Power 4 Tac-2 HE, I tried every one of my loadouts...and I just couldn't do it.
As soon as I tried leaving that first bit of cover, the small building as you exit the elevator, I was hit from multiple angles and dropped.
If I tried to move, cover to cover, off to the right I was out flanked and left with no choice but to retreat back towards the elevator and death.
The issue isn't simply that there seems too many enemies, but rather the way they face tank en masse, 4 at a time, making it a war of attrition that I lose.
If I am too DPS heavy my heals and turret are not strong enough and if I am too heavy into Skill my weapons aren't packing enough punch when I need them to.
I have no issue in the DZ facing more elite/named bosses and yellows, but that is because they seem much more likely to use cover allowing to more protracted engagementa that I can win through tactics and the high DPS or Skill.
But that rooftop feels like a bottleneck that I can't squeeze through, as there is nowhere to retreat to or enough space to keep moving about so as to outflank the NPCS, and it is very frustrating.
So, waffle over, any advice guys?
Is there a way to approach it that works for you?
Is there a preferred build you think would work in that situation?
I read and see plenty of others solo the Challenging content and they always seem to have such relaxed and cover happy NPCS, though I know that's probably just my imagination, so it is obviously do-able.
I am not the greatest player, but I can hold my own and my build(s) are far from an unoptimised mess.
Help!!!!
Use cluster seeker mines and turret with your Tactician build, stack enemy armor damage and damage to elites as high as you can on all pieces that have it available. I use an airburst and sticky bomb on the group that come out of the room by the elevator and they don't make it out and sometimes i glitch the mission out cause i drop them too quickly before the mission objective tells me to kill the leader. Try to use a gun with Talented on it to get even more skill power after a kill and wear Barretts chest piece and an inventive backpack while using all seeker mine damage performance mods. I clear Legendary content solo with my build, i am squishy and completely glass with toughness but they usually don't make it to me for me to worry. I use a sniper with predatory on the bottom so it is unlocked and it is my utility weapon to regain health and save med kits. Make sure to throw your turret in places that cannot be reached by the heavy so it isn't stomped out and all usually goes well and they pay more attention to the turret as well.
When you get to the rooftop and step out of the elevator into that little patio area, just hop on top of the shed that's right there with the vines growing on its side.
It has a nice protective barrier on top that will shield you from most of the BS, so you can pretty much sit up there and just take your time with it.
Grenades almost never make it up there. It's happened maybe twice in all my many, many runs.
I personally do it with 4-piece Tactician, Sticky Bomb, and Pulse Turret, but I've also done it with Seekers, Flame Turret, etc.
I also used to struggle like heck with that one particular section of the mission, but taking cover on the shed really makes it a lot easier.
I tried hopping up onto the shed but they just grenade spam me into oblivion, sometimes ending up with me dead from a one hit kill grenade, or an NPCS will climb up after me.Originally Posted by illformed Go to original post
You can run back to the elevator and keep them on the outside. Go back down too if needed.Originally Posted by RhinoCharging00 Go to original post
I have used the seeker, pulse, turret, at one time or another and I think I have a gun with the talent you mentioned.Originally Posted by VengeanceSolo Go to original post
I appreciate your advice, though, and will definitely try again and see if it helps.
Mine too.Originally Posted by gt2k Go to original post
I had this problem before with my tactician skill build.... it has to be pieced together a certain way. Especially if you're just relying on skill power. I'm running 4 piece TA with Reckless chest and inventive backpack. I'm at 401 Skill power at 9000 electronics. All my pieces are rolled electronics with as much skill power and skill haste I can recalibrate on them. If you can get damage to elites on the minor rolls it's a plus. All my mods are electronic with either skill haste or skill power. I think I have one mod firearms because I needed to reach firearm requirement for my weapon talents but it has haste. My primary and secondary weapons are assault rifles... I don't use them for firing just to activate the talents. Any assault will do as long as you have destructive, ferocious, competent or determined( each kill shortens your skill cool down. The trick though with your weapons is that it's impossible to reach all your requirements at 256. So get your hands on a BP for a 204 assault rifle. The requirements are much lower. Top it off with seeker clusters and turret(fire turret for inside and sensor one for outside) My clusters can kill on one hit for lower end NPCs and about half for tougher NPCs. Your turret will keep them distracted and get some kills to proc that determine and help get your clusters back even quicker.
