    FC4 makes my computer crash

    Hello!
Could use some help on an issue.

My computer broke down not that long ago, but I got it fixed. The problem was a mulfunctioning harddrive and it got replaced. But now Far Cry 4 makes my computer do a total freeze/crash that forces me to do a hard shutdown.

I did not have this problem before, and it happens both in-game and in the editor. The amount of time I can play before it happens varies between a few minutes and up towards two hours.

It does not happen when I play any other game or do anything else on the computer. Changing graphics does nothing. I run both the game and uPlay as administrator, and I have done a file verify. I also reinstalled the game and uPlay, yet the problem still exists.
    (No mods are installed)

Any ideas what the problem could be?

    Specs:
    Windows 10 64-bit
    AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
    Intel Core i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz
    8GB RAM

get DDU here and totally wipe out your vid card drivers

your vid chip is no longer supported by updated drivers .. AMD ended support for the 6900 series cards over a yr ago , don't believe me see here

    https://betanews.com/2015/11/24/amd-kills-gpu/

Sadly, quite a number of AMD graphics cards have reached end of life today. In other words, the manufacturer will no longer support them. To make the situation particularly harsh, however, the company is abruptly stopping driver development without warning. If you own one of these cards, you will never get a new driver again after today.

"AMD Radeon HD 8000 Series (HD 8400 and below), Radeon HD 7000 Series (HD 7600 and below), Radeon HD 6000 Series, and Radeon HD 5000 Series Graphics products have reached peak performance optimization as of November 24th, 2015. These products have been moved to a legacy support model and no additional driver releases are planned. This change enables us to dedicate valuable engineering resources to developing new features and enhancements for graphics products based on the GCN Architecture", says Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
AMD further says, "as a courtesy to our valued supporters we are providing a final 'As Is' Beta driver together with the release of the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition. The AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition Beta driver includes the redesigned user interface as well as some enhanced features. For users looking for a WHQL certified driver, the AMD Catalyst 15.7.1 driver will continue to be available for users running Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7. Users running Windows Vista and older Microsoft operating systems can use the AMD Catalyst 13.12 driver".

your next step is install an older supported driver .. you can find them here 15.7.1 seemed the most stable on my AMD vid cards that are no longer supported , yes even under windows 10

as well as get DDU http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/...-download.html

run DDU in safe mode for best results

if you still get freezing you possibly could have another problem with your system Power supply .. when they get older they do go flakey
i know as i replace them all the time for my customers , and myself have even seen my own thermaletake and cooler master and EVGA PSU's go bad after 6 months
when that happens yea you put a load on the GPU .. the system freezes and you have to hard power it off and on

so check your power supply as well as try older more stable drivers , again older AMD cards no longer get any driver support , new drivers may install but they may not work properly
you can contact AMD support also

    Thanks for your answer!

However, I am unnable to download the driver. When you press download in the link you offered it redirects me to AMD website where I have to install their Automatic detect program. That program does not work on my computer for some reason. It says there is no internet connection. Then I also have to option to search for a driver manually, but when I press "Display results" nothing happens. Tried to search for many different drivers but that button simply doesn't work.

I have tried finding and installing the driver from another website, yet all of them redirects me to AMDs website where I can't get a hold of it. Any ideas on how I can get a hold of it without being redirected to that site, or how to make the autodetect work?

So, it took a few days to reply but I had to get a clear picture of the problem.

After wiping the drivers and installing that update, my original problem disappeared/got solved. However, I know face another odd issue.

I now have a problem of my screen going black, and then I get blocky pixels in different colors like purple and white. I can still hear the music/game when this happens. This also forces me to do a hard shutdown.
This problem does not occur every time I play. If the game has been running for 20 mins without the "crash", it can run for hours without any problem. And it does not happen when I do anything else on the computer.

Any ideas/suggestions of what it could be? Malfunctioning graphicscard?

gpu may be dying if your seeing artifacts ..or it may just be your card can't handle your settings , i would replace that HD 6900 with at least a GTX 1050 ti or better or an AMD rx 470 or better since AMD is no longer gonna offer any updated better drivers for the older model cards (an yes far cry 4 will push your card more then other games will )

(i use a gtx 1060 6 gig card and could not be happier with its great performance)

but you could try to lower your in game settings and see if that helps i suppose

also if your power supply is over a yr or too old look into getting that checked out .. i had to replace mine a few months ago (it was 5 yrs old ) it was a themaltake 550 watt and when it started going out ... i was getting game freezing ..replaced it with a new 550 watt and my problems went away , so look into that as well as i do know those 6900 cards were kinda power hungry compared to the newer ones and the 6900 series is kinda old now .. they came out in 2010 early 2011 ..so yea it really could just come down to an old GPU that needs to be replaced
