Hi
new here.
About 5 hours ago, I was playing FC4 as normal*, its my first time completing the game and I'm half way through, I minimized to check my FB messages which I had done many times without issue, and I decided to turn on some music for running around, so I put on YT then maximized the game.. sudden loss of frames, OK OK: then so *DON'T DO THAT THEN* but here's the weird part, even though (and I haven't been checking until now) I was getting last I checked a solid 37fps..but now, 10 to 20 fps.
I have:
1. validated
2. turned off all other programs
3. used compatibility mode
4. checked if any windows updates were installed
5. rebooted
6. shut down and let the PC cool (even though my temps are fine around 50C)
7. changed loads of settings in NVCP to increase performance
My specs are :
HP Z600 Xeon X5650 (two of them giving 24 total cores. all working in game)
GTX 970 4GB
9GB 1333mhz DDR3
M.2 PCIE drive for FC4 (30GB free space) 10GB page file.
Xbox 360 wireless pad
So you see what I'm saying how weird it was.. it was fine before then BAM!
I mean not perfect, I was having the occasional skeleton animation fail and the mobs walk about like an Action Man figure, but that was rare, like 1 or 2 times the whole half game. But I was having a great time.. then.. nope! 10-20 fps!
I don't want to update my graphics driver just for FC4.. I mean all my other games I tried are working normally. I have many sampled custom resolutions that I would much prefer to not have to spend 2 hours redo-ing :/
help?

* I have around 40 hours, been playing this recently as I left my MMO hobby of DCUO. fill the gap.. but more than that I have enjoyed the kikaz mechanics in this game, story is well written too.. *spoiler***both sides are evil. wish I could play on Pagan's side if I got bad enough karma and it switched to attacking GP fortresses .. the game is *that well* written it could work, in fact it seems like the writers may have intended that. good job! I took an instant dislike to Amita, I guess I was supposed to, would have been nice to have Noore as a love interest though ****spoiler*
** Uplay version. FC4 patch: 1.10.0
So I jumped into my Vista install I have setup for Saboteur (doesn't work on modern OS's/only supports upto 4 cores), after a little wrangling drivers/Uplay I had it back to 30-40 fps, but there seems to be a major problem with FC4 on Vista, kept crashing/acting strangely/strange menu problems.. I think after I get off skype with my fiancee I will give it another go with all cores on, see if that stabilizes things, but 4 cores should be fine..
Was glad to see Uplay didn't hassle me once installed
UPDATE:
So I just had a 2 hour session.. not bad, the loading was super looong, but got better over time, not total crashes but a pause for around 30 seconds while it loaded a bridge. no better with 24 core than 4.. but still at least its kinda working
oh and something I forgot from the original post.. it was something you never see, no matter what the resolution or graphics settings, same fps. which suggests to me, that it is NOT a driver issue and FC4 Devs optimizations have been looking in the wrong place, imho ofc... culpates for this are: Sata SSD (the info coming from the SSD just sits inside the ram, because the gfx card doesn't know the sata bus has sent the info to ram yet), too little PCIE offload to the graphics card (like its sipping tea when we told it we want a beer bong) Sound Syncing confusing the SPU (sound chip).. finally the 'hook calls' for the engine are super slow, everything else is running at normal speed, but the engine doesn't call for properties fast enough, everything loads correctly but because the hook calls are super slow it creates 'false lag'.. you see this effect in distance draw, but when the engine itself has this.. it makes the engine ditzy, ( like a dude on a street corner that shouts about how hamburgers are coming to take over the world.. then for 5 minutes as lucid and erudite as you like.. then back shouting about hamburgers) solution: I'm not a coder.. I understand R* had a similar problem with early Rage builds.. from a system aspect you gotta tighten those calls, I'm not much help but.. I'm trying.
All and each of the above can lead to the symptoms I described. but it was manageable and easier to see in Vista (x64 Ultimate).
by the way sir vista = not a fully supported OS ..vista 64 may work but no the game does not support multiple CPUS in that OLD OS
please see the far cry 4 system requirements

yeah.. I mentioned in my second post i'm on a modern OS.. im in windows 10 professional x64. The vista installation is just for The Saboteur..
regardless, I semi-fixed this for win10 by turning on v-sync.. which is pretty laughable/crazy that I can't use adaptive without the frames dropping to 10-20 fps.
I'm on 30fps with v-sync on.
your cnp answer is a bit offensive tbh, but i *do* think you're trying to help and just didn't ascertain my intelligence or experience level.. or at least that's what i'll give as benefit of the doubt.
The GTX 970, should be enough to run FC4 at around 50fps solidly, the V-RAM doesn't go over 3.2 GB* while playing on ultra @ 2731x1536 (sampled @2048x1536), so I reckon there are more frames to be had, the card sits around half cores power useable (46%) .. ach, as long as its working now. I mean no one asked me to troubleshoot for the devs.. so im off for now.
everyone have a great day! I will be buying Primal soon, hope to enjoy that as much as I have FC4.
*(afterburner reports the V-RAM sitting at 3111MB)
ok well dunno if this will help ya but i do use Razer cortex 7.0
many ppl say it does not work but i'm getting over 80 - 130 FPS with my GTX 1060 ..with my old Strix GTX 960\ no cortex i was getting 40- 50 ..with it i got 60 to 70 constant
so give that a shot too .. what it does is shuts off several ram eating windows services when ya launch your game ..exit your game they reload and coretewx unloads .. it usually for me frees up about a half a gig of ram for my games to use ..and yea for me..... it really does work! ...... not only in fc 4 but all my games
the newer version does not work as well .. so i stick with version 7.0 you can find it here
http://www.filehorse.com/download-ga.../old-versions/
my rig is old as dirt
Intel core 2 quad Q 9650 @ 3,0 Ghz \ 12 meg CPU cache
8 gig of ram
ASUS P5 B motherboard
Gigabyte Windforce 2 GTX 1060 6 gig card
Win 10 Pro 64 bit
2 SSD drives
1 1 tb Drive
SB live sounds card
old system with the GTX 960 was about the same and here are the settings i used and the game played great
my in Game settings are Custom
resolution 1920 X 1080
vsync - on
Quality settings
motion blur off - not a fan of it ..
Textures - Ultra
Shadows - High <--- (Nvidia PCSS Soft Shadows will kill your FPS )
Post FX -Ultra
Geometry - Very High
Vegetation- Ultra
Environment - High
Water - Ultra
Ambient Occusion setting is SSBC
Antialising settings is SMAA
God rays - off- not a fan of how it looks (can make the game unstable..even on Titan X and GTX 980 Ti cards )
Fur - on
Trees relief -on
in Advanced settings
Triple buffering - off
Vsync mode - Normal
in Nvidia control panel, i made these changes
Anisotropic Filtering = 16 X
Max Pre Rendered Frames = 1 or 3
Set Power Management Mode = Adaptive
game looks fine to me and plays stutter free on my system with zero crashes or slow downs
Thanks for trying man.. I just had a go with it, I lost an extra 10 frames, so no luck.Originally Posted by WID992007 Go to original post
