When Black Flag came out it was both one of the most fun and yet one of the most aggravating games.
The ship combat, the setting, all were so much fun. Yet the tie to the AC franchise really held the game back from reaching what could have been an amazing open world golden age of piracy game.
Many people voiced this type of an opinion and after the game was released Ubi sent out a survey about interest in a pirate game but not tied to AC. This got many of us super excited and hoping for that dream pirate game to finally come.
Just thinking about all the things that they could do. Having a large open world, maybe letting you choose how you wanted to play within it, do you want to take up a career in the navy and sail under a countries flag? Do you want to simply become a merchant and build a trade empire? Or do you want to take up sailing under the black flag and turn to piracy? Go more toward rpg elements. Letting you make your own character, develop their skills as a captain as well as their own combat style with plenty of loot to find and discover.
With rich and varied lands to explore on your travel, many a taverns to accompany and listening to drunken sailors singing in them while you explore the lands and find crew members that are all over the world, convincing them to join your merry crew complete with their own story and backgrounds with stats that influence how your ship behaves and things. All wrapped up in a narrative that is woven throughout the world
Having multiplayer similar to Watch Dogs 2, where it's seamlessly blended in the world, where for example, you could be playing as a memeber of the royal navy who's been assigned to escort a ship to harbor while another player, who's a pirate, is trying to take that ship for the treasure onboard.
To have this game simply be an mp only game, with ZERO land exploration, no storyline, just ship combat, would be a huge disappointment and completely misses the point of what many people wanted when they said they wanted black flag to spin off from the AC series.
I think this game has a lower budget than most of their games (unless there's a lot of stuff they haven't shown yet). For Honor definitely has multiplayer as main mode, but it also featured a full singleplayer/coop campaign.
It's hard to know without exact details, but right now the singleplayer component of Skull and Bones sounds similar to Sid Meier's Pirates. If it's basically that in an open world where other players can play too, that sounds great to me. I hope they show more details of how the general non-PVP gameplay is. If the game's focus is on these 5v5 PVP modes, I'll be very disappointed.
I liked AC Black Flag a lot, but a game with more freedom on the sea would be nice. When I read this post it remind me about EVE-online for you who know that game. It would be super cool if this game could be like EVE but on the sea.Originally Posted by Stiler Go to original post
You should have the freedom to choose to be pirate or anti pirate, build your own port, join alliance or start trade company. Search for treashures hunting pirates for bounty.
I missing more of that kind of freedom where you can forming your career in a vast of ways. But of course the main focus should be on your sea skills and how you master your ship and treasury skills etc.
I don't know what this game will be or what you guys and girls want from a game like this, but I hope I can get into the beta. I am looking forward to this game :-)
From what it sounds like you can't explore as a person off your ship, like the original Driver games where you couldn't get out of your car.
I was let down by the game play, it is a carbon-copy of Black Flag which is lazy. The in-game map is identical, the game play of the naval weapons is the same.
IMO people would have been happier with a fully fledged Pirate game like Sea of Thieves but with the tone and realism of Skull & Bones. Exploration on and off boats, actual islands and locations to explore with your crew.
I am disappointed though that this is essentially Black Flag with updated graphics and will probably cost £50
1. In my opinion is going more toward rpg elements the main aspect to make this game the best game i ever played. Skilltrees for your charakter, your ship(s) and maybe even your hideout on an island wich can be improoved would make this game so diversified. The possibility to choose wether you sail under the black flag or under a countrys flag would give us the opportunity to play this game multiple times.Originally Posted by Stiler Go to original post
2. I would be glad if there is a thrilling and fascinating Story where you conquer the open seas or prevent the open seas to get conquered with perhaps multiple endings. This includes not only fight against other ships but also against sea monsters, rebellion of your crew and so on. A diversified game were you as a player can get lost in.
3. Take your time. I would rather play a very good game a year later than a game that is messed up and littered up with bugs.

Basically take Sid Meier's Pirates! and Black Flag, give us the graphical fidelity/Sailing/exploration from Black Flag and then the freedom and openess that the Sid Meier's Pirates games had.
That was like the dream pirate game for me, a full golden age of piracy experience that gave you all aspects of living in the world during this time and let you play it how you wanted to.
Hey, as long as there is lots of sea shanties, i'm happy. :P
For real though, i'm not sure if there will be a sort of country / allegiance / buccaneer sort of thing, though it would be cool. I think having the whole concept of pirates and pirate gangs at the moment is good enough to go on. I'm hoping the environments are vast and diverse, as we know it is going to be open world and different regions with different aesthetics would be really cool and would help make ship based exploration a lot better!![]()
