Lol Well first off, since this forum is just a beacon of friendliness and civility, let me preface with: ALL The Following Is My OPINION.
Not saying I'm right or wrong or anyone else is. And if I'm factually wrong about a hard fact, let me know pease. Just my take on FH overall. I'm on a very long bus ride so figured I'd type something up since I've never really been active here. Maybe someone in here will have a genius idea the devs will read, never know. I've lurked here a long time, since the game came out, and I have 300+ hours into this game.
I'm not saying that to prove I'm the best player or know everything; heck I don't think I'm as good as I should be honestly. But I do think I'm credible enough to get on my soapbox lol
So y'all know where I'm coming from, I play brawl bout 40% the time with Dominion and Elimination filling up the rest. Rarely skirmish. I used to duel more, waiting on less shins in there. They've become my kryptonite.
Overall? Fantastic game. Amazing concept. It's just too bad it got into Ubisofts hands! I dont mean to bash the devs, I'm sure their working hard. As a a company I feel they went into this game with the goal to make a quick buck. It seems to me this and the devs are doing what they can. I'd hazard to guess the For Honor department is not only understaffed but the priorities of new costumes/ornaments & micro-transaction driven content has more priority than balancing and bug fixing. Like with the season 2 hero's, seems they ignored all player feedback just to push out something people will pay for, and will go back and fix it later. Same thing UBI did with GR: Wildlands. But thats off topic.
Now in defense of the devs, this game is a bit unique. I don't know every video game that has ever came out, but there treading a decent amount of new territory. And if they listened to the threads here, every character would have been nerfed and buffed to oblivion by now!
And I was never big on fighters before this game, But still, After all that for me personally the gameplay still cancels it out enough I enjoy myself overall. I mean I'm still playing. Still having a blast **most** the time.
Community/Players/Tactics/"Honor"&"GetGud":
The board reps here are great with communicating. +1 to Jurassic and Noty. I like the warriors den every week. No complaints there, except all the board reps seem to know is blah-blah is coming soon, collecting data still, I will pass on your comments to the devs🤐
As far as the player community, Ive gotten more hatemail than I ever have from every other game ive played combined. Also I play in groups a lot of fandoms and the younger children are the core of the cancer I feel. I've also met a bunch of great people. Most my friends list is FH players. The forums here are slightly more hatefilled than your average Internet forum so ill skip that lol
There are too people here tho.
To me far as the cheap tactics "spamming", "vortex's", throwing people off ledges are totally valid. Cheap, but valid. It's in the game. The bots do it. It's by design. By vortex I mean attacks that can be chained together until OOS or close to it without very small windows for input or 50/50 mechanic on some characters. Doesn't a true vortex takes input away from the defender? Ive seen it argued on here both ways. Either way, except for a few cases, there's a way to handle it generally. Some people are better at it, some aren't. And while I think people can be "vortexed" so bad Input is denied, its rare and normally involves a wall. Every "vortex" in this game I've seen people escape from and have escaped from them myself. So i don't think theirs any "true vortexes". If vortex=Input denial, then no one should ever escape right? It's hard, But possible if you know how or get lucky. In this case a little "get gud" goes a long way. Same with spamming.
By spamming I mean throwing Non stop lights in random directions, and zones til bout OOS, dodge run, repeat. Looking at looking at you PKs since I mostly see mid to low lvl PKs doing this. Orochi's are notorious as well. Bezerkers don't spam I've noticed. Or their spam is designed. Im not sure since that's one of the characters I've never been interested in. I do think the normalization of the guard speed change across all characters will go a long way towards fixing this. Most times is you stay calm and look for the dodge/parry timing you can stop the spam I feel. I dislike PKs more than any character but, unpopular opinion lol, they we're completely over nerfed.
GB spam used to be more of a problem, but with how they have CGB timing right now, i feel it's not that big an issue. I see a lot CGB happening.
Ledges: their in the game for a reason. Stay away and CGB. Espicially in Dominion. There should be less in 1v1 and 2v2 I think. I don't really throw people unless they have first, or it's a respawn game mode.
HONOR v GET GUD
Ahh the everlasting debate. "Made up rules" vs "it's the title of the game".
Well like anyone else, I've gotten absolutely enraged and frustrated at times enemies were playing "dishonorably" sure and I've played like a complete @sshat at times myself! Its a competive game and a rather brutal one at that. I look at it as a game of Highs and lows. Plenty of epic moments, basking In hard won victory, overcoming the odds, etc. But also plenty of times you end up staring at your dead body with emotes flying just thinking "wow... that was total BS." I enjoy it either way. I kinda just go off the enemy. Figured I have fun either way, why not play their way? I play brawl and elim like that. Dom/skirm a free for all no holds barred of course. Elim normally is cept those rare games.
So what do i think? I think it's a bunch of made up rules. As I played and as I got better I started to see the chinks in the armor so to say. Spamming, vortexs, all that become easier to avoid. Meanwhile I turned my vortexing/spamming into an art form lol think I'm "getting Gud" hopefully. I've repped up a few characters but I mained valk (half you probably hate me now 🤔and I really do think it's a NoobStomper. I think "vortexing" In general is. Not sayin I never get caught bc certainly do. But a good amount of the time i can escape or just avoid it in the first place.
But I like playing with honor too. I kinda just go off the enemy. Figured I have fun either way, why not play their way? I prefer to keep things Honorable in brawls simply bc you end up having all 4 ready for a second match more often. Dom/skirm a free for all no holds barred of course. Elim normally is too cept those rare games where they let the last one try to fight one on one. So pretty much never.
GANKING:
First off I feel if you complain about ganking in skirmish just turn off the game. Thats the entire game mode imo It's a "skirmish" AKA small battle. Also my least favorite lol
Other than that, well its fair game in Dominion. Everything is I feel. One teammate running zones can win the game against a team of gankers. Its tough for me to accept it in elimination because Thats definitly 4 1v1s where the victors go fight. The goal is to kill your enemy before he gets backup, so you can go and backup your teammates, since it's still a team based mode. Now if your the only on your team that won and now have 3 people who will most likely kill you, sucks you had a bad team. Fight or flight, go for a revive if possible. But when someone ran away from their fight to barge into yours it kinda ruins the fun, at least for me. The new revive limit is nice, you can still fight outnumbered and have somehwat a chance. I'd like it if their was a mechanic to the game lik say you can't leave your area until either one of you kills the other or there's like a minute left in the game. But I understand that's a tall order. Just a thought
CONNECTION ISSUES:
I get why they did P2P. Or least what they say their reason was. Host advantage, lag ect. Well, I already get lag and I'd rather one person have a slight advantage than the disconnect issue, and I'm sure many would agree. The Dualers here might not agree, but I'm sure the group players would😁
I'm not very knowledgeable on the technical aspect of all that, so I won't go on much about this. Last thing I want to do is talk out my @ss on something I'm pretty much ignorant on beyond the basics.
Just seems like a poor trade-off. Little more even gameplay, annoyance-that-can-sometimes-be-crippling-that drives players away. Plus with no servers, they don't have test servers correct? (I could be wrong on this).
DLC HEROS:
I like this game bc for the most part You need to rely on a mixture of personal skill, reflexes, and knowledge of heros movesets. And if duel or brawl, sometimes elim, you have to pick up peoples patterns over the course of multiple fights. Not counting one hit kill glitches and connection issues. I agree those are huge issues and those fall squarely on the Developers shoulders. I understand different heros will have different strengths and weaknesses, as well as certain heros their strong/weak to. If everything was the same across all characters, it'd be incredibly boring IMO. But to me the new hero's don't quite fit into the game. The Centurion almost does.
Just either other characters need to be brought up to his level, or he needs to be tweaked for group play without destroying his, what I feel, average ability on 1v1. He packs a punch, but can be punished hard. I repped the Centuarion to one just figure out how they work. Their honestly not great one on one I think. All you have to do is get the timing dodge to the side and his openers go out the window. I agree with most in that it's going to be tough to balance it both for duels and group play. I think His stamina drain needs to be lessened, no stuns on the jab, and his stamina cost increased maybe. The only real OP thing about the cent in my opinion is how badly you can hurt peoples stamina, and then keep them from ever recovering it. That and the fact that popping revenge when getting grouped up on them just makes them laugh! in compensation give him a little more health. The upcoming guard change speed normalization will dont the rest to help him.
As far as the shinobi, there's probably 7 threads about him right now so I aint Got much to say since I have no idea how they would balance it or if it even needs it. So I'll just complain stead 😂
The getting hit/grabbed by somebody offscreen sucks, I know the guard indicator flashes but for me if don't even think there's anybody to that side by the time I see it and realize what's happened it's too late. Getting scorpioned (GET OVER HERE!) from a guy on the over side of the chasm is a real bummer too. I can block/CGB/sometimes parry the distance attacks when I'm focused on them relatively easy, they just get up so quick and run away. Everybody already knows about the kicks.
Since I haven't got to play them yet I'm holding back on saying they need a nerf or anything . But from the outside looking in, they seem very easy to play with a high reward to risk with their avoid skills. Plus side, there very squishy. So far I've decided I can't beat a decent shinobi. I just have to wait for them to make a mistake. Somehow the most luck I've had with them is the Conq inf lights somehow. There's so busy trying to get away most the time it works. (they seem to get panicky quick, probably bc of low HP pool)
Alright guys, now for everybody to hop in an tell me how I'm wrong about everything. Which I could be, as I said at the top. All just my opinion.
