Hey everyone.
I've been looking at the official website of the game, and especially at the "allies/rebellion' part. And in this particular part, it is said that Nick Rye is the only "Guns for hire" ally of the 3 characters revealed. It does mean that Jerome and Mary May are most likely quest givers or allies that cannot be called to help us in battle.
Soooo... since we can recruit up to 3 guns for hire at a time, it may point towards a quite large cast of allies, being both fighting and non fighting ones. Other point is that Guns for hire characters may be specialized in some kind of fight.
I mean, Fangs for Hire will use Primal system of animal classes (feline, canine, bears, etc having special abilities and tactics) so we can think of a gun for hire mechanic that would end up being quite similar. Nick Rye is specialized in planes and aerial combat. We can imagine some other "specialized fighters": a truck dealer being a driving expert, a local hunter acting as a sharp shooter, a war vet (even if the game already has 2) good at guerrilla tactics, a former baseball player specialized in close combat... The possibilities are numerous.
So what kind of fighting allies would you love to fight with? I'd be dreaming of a crazed local paleontologist (Montana is such a fossil nest) helping you with explosives and dynamite sticks...
It does seem as though the guns for hire taking on specialized roles sort of mixes it up quite nicely. I'm imagining them being somewhat similar to calling in kill streaks in CoD. Maybe calling some of them doesn't even necessarily mean they are a physical presence in the battlefield but more of a support role. Like maybe they reveal enemy locations or deliver supplies to you or something as well.
I never used or needed Guns for Hire in Far Cry 4, nor rebel support in Wildlands..... The three NPC buddies on my team in Wildlands are just annoying. So I hope we can disable support characters (if they decided to put them in the game at all), if/when we want to.
But than again, I can imagine that some people like it![]()

The implication that the various guns for hire will have specific abilities that they bring makes me think I may use them more than I did in FC4 because some situations may call for an aerial strafe run or something moreso than it ever did a couple of inept Golden path bozos showing up and just shooting all over the place, but I still can't see myself using the feature much. Coop is the most support I imagine I'll use regularly...

As for FC4 I never used guns for hire (except to see what it did) I prefer stealth. But I too understand it is a feature that a lot of people like, and it is always better to have too many choices than not enough
I did like co-op in FC4 but... there was a restriction on the distance we can be apart.... wander too far apart and you end up respawning in a base. I do like how wildlands does co-op. you can be apart but fast travel to the other person.
I'm sure in the game you can save hostages and those people you saved will become Guns For Hire tokens. Nick seems like a character that is too important just to be a Guns For Hire token. In fact I do think he will be a Guns For Hire token at all. He probably just has a bunch of allies that he can give you to help you. Cuz what if Nick dies? Then what?
My impression is that the implementation of Guns for Hire has changed somewhat. It seems to me that they are no longer just generic allied characters who fight til they are killed, but rather specific specialty characters who offer help in more specific ways. Looks as though Nick for example provides air support on a designated location.... I'd also wager the guns for hire characters are protected NPCs that cannot die...Originally Posted by Canadian Beer42 Go to original post
Reading the latest version of Edge Magazine.
As you move about the county, then, you’ll encounter characters who are in a spot of bother. Help them, and they’ll join your cause, providing assistance in a number of ways. While most are just regular Joes with no particular skills, you’ll also encounter hero characters who, once enlisted, provide access to unique assets and toys that can support your efforts. These hero characters also gain experience alongside you, becoming more proficient and learning new skills as they go.
I am happy at that part I just read saying that they gain experience and learn new skills.
