Hi,
I'm a slow learner.. I've spent a week playing the Shinobi and reached reputation level 2 but I was probably carried 40% of the time. I do my best, watch the guides and practice with bots but my skill is coming rather slowly - not that it would stop me..
Having previously (3 months ago) played Orochi and with similar results I wanted to ask those of you who have more experience and knowledge on both of these classes: which from your point of view is better, demands bigger skill to be utilised properly and gives more fun?
Please, do not suggest I "go out and play" because I have done it. Unfortunately, not being "on pair" with the surrounding For Honor community my view on the subject is most likely twisted and I simply cannot make a fair judgement on that.
Thank you in advance!

I've gotten both Shinobi and Orochi to Rep 4 (almost 5) now and while i'm certainly no master of either class I'll happily share my thoughts on them both.Originally Posted by Belphegorn Go to original post
Orochi is a good character for 1v1 and once you get a few of his key skills down he can be quite powerful, he is slower than Shinobi but his health pool makes him far less fragile so most times a few mistakes can be made without taking too severe a penalty for it,
I've also had marginal success surviving whilst outnumbered with him in the past although a full gank squad may prove too much for him until your skills increase unless they're CC spammers in which case skill probably wont help,
My only real critcism of him is that some of his attacks always felt sluggish to me but maybe that was just my inexperience showing,
His storm rush and top lights are his bread and butter get them down to reflex and he will have success against the more inexperienced opponents but be wary using them against higher skilled enemies because storm rush in particular can be punished.
Shinobi is fast and deadly and his arsenal or tricks makes him an excellent support character if you use him for capturing points as well as sneakily reviving teammates if you take his stealth feat, His ability to ranged guard break whilst easily punished by Human opponents can be used in a defensive manner too meaning you can save teammates from execution at a distance by dragging them off of your allies to allow them to be revived by another or yourself after you deal with the enemy
It took me a while to get good with him mainly because I've been avoiding relying on the kick attack too heavily since a nerf is highly likely inbound for it,
Once you figure out a good rythym he can really take the lead in most fights but his low health pool limits the mistakes you can make severely and really forces you to choose your battles carefully.
After a fair few games I lean more heavily towards Shinobi myself in regards to enjoyment purely because I enjoy his high risk/high reward playstyle and I love his double dodge ability.
Orochi is better if survivability is your desire,
Orochi can be near untouchable in the right hands, Shinobi however can die just by standing in the wrong place when a Shugoki swings his unblockable.
Orochi's executions are much cooler in my personal opinion so his engagements feel more satisfying in 1v1 (although this is personal choice obviously).
Shinobi's executions on the other hand feel dangerous but a necessary evil purely for the health gain if you're in a team game because one hit can mean instant death so you should execute only if you feel confident your enemy isnt waiting in the shadows ready to pounce.
I'd say in conclusion that Shinobi is great fun if you like living on the edge and are happy in a supporting role in team games.
Orochi is great fun though if you like to play the master swordsman and feel like a true to life samurai and be a duelling king,
Difficulty I'd give to Orochi at present because he is more balanced at the moment but when Shinobi has been balanced a bit in a few weeks I'd say he will be a harder hero to master in the long run.
Hope that helps you out!
My advice is that wait until Orochi buff before make a decision. Shinobi need a look out for fixing some bugs (deflects that throw you out ledges, weird camera movement...) but it's very different to other heroes.
It's much harder than Orochi, mainly for survivalibity of both.
Any way... why choose only one? Personally, i prefer to not stick to one heroe
Well, if both heroes go into a duel, it is rather interesting and somewhat balanced. The Orochi can severly punish the Shinobi, however, highly skilled kick-play and very fast reflexes would mean the match is in slight favor for the Shinobi. However, below the godlike skill-level, I guess Orochi has an easier time.
All in all though, Shinobi is way superior right now. He can open up everyone, is faster and has more utility. From his whole skill-set, Shinobi is the most complete character with skills and even feats catering to possibly every kind of player there is (except tahk-players maybe). I mean, as assassin, just compare his minion-kill-speed to Orochi. Poor Orochi :3
Orochi V shinobi is a bad match up for shinobi.Originally Posted by Herbstlicht Go to original post
Orochi can dash attack the kick whiff into heavy or the kick whiff into back flip and nail him both times.
Orochi can dash attack the slide kick too.
Orochi probably gets some of the best damage punish on a ranged attack from shin because double top light is still confirmed even though shin wakes up quickly he can't parry that.
Parrying shins zone still gets you 2 top lights without a GB.
That leaves shin mixing up between GB from double dash or light light spam. Both of which are really not hard to deal with at all. Only way a shin is going to come out on top in this fight is if you play hyper reactively and turtle. as you can't initiate on an orochi from safe range since he counters all of it without needing to guess.
Shinobi can also double dash into neutral and bait the dash attack for a parry. That's his true 50/50 against Orochi but most Shinobi don't know this. Even then if you both randomly guess, Orochi should win more than he loses considering his health advantage. Another great tactic against Shinobi is to just wait a half second for their guard to expire then do top lights. Their guard expires just way too fast.Originally Posted by Knight_Raime Go to original post
