I have made many other threads about what kensei needs to become viable without having a cheesy safe opener, but I just realized something that I overlooked. Kensei currently is no threat to an OOS opponent, they just block everything and they are fine. My idea is that kensei has a passive ability in all game modes so that when people are out of stamina he deals significant chip damage. I don't know how much the chip multiplier would be, but I think if kensei sailed on some one for the duration of the exhaustion and they only blocked he should deal about 35 damage. That might sound crazy but remember that warden can vortex and easily deal 2-3 bars of damage when someone is OOS, and warlord can spam headbutt. I feel like the threat of 35 damage may be enough to get the opponent to make a move such as a parry attempt or a dodge that could be punished with a gb. I am open to suggestions or modifications.
I have a modification for all Kensei mains out there.. Remove him from the game. Right now For Honor is all about spamming vortex and spamming light attacks. And from what i ve seen from these 2 new chars they are going full down that path. So kensei has neither. Defense meta is not going to be fixed before season 3 (if ever will be). So either a safe vortex which i dont really want to get or make him obsolete.
Or should we await about a fix like dodge attack leading to 3rd hit combo?
Well, the devs said they are going into the mindgame direction. Less reactibility, more 50/50. So honestly? At some point, all characters are going to have something like this.
With as much changes coming as there might with the defensive meta change, Kensei might be in a rather ok'ish spot. However, something he does suffer from, are his recovery and some attack frames. He does get rather vulnerable rather fast, in parts it is so bad that you dodge a warlord with your side attack and he can already parry this dodge attack! Doesn't work on all moves of course, but that stuff like this is possibly is rather bad.
When it comes to fixing, many people did add some ideas however, with most liking to strengthen his mind game. Personally, the more I see the change of direction, the less I like this mindgaming stuff. Reason being: the game might get rather offensive and spammy at some point. Something I personally like. But you need room and time for feint and mind games. Something you might not have at some point any longer.
Ah well, I will wait for the first Kensei buffs to arrive. Guess they are rather near. Hope whatever they do is somewhat better then what the Raider got.
