So if they implement chip damage and it actually becomes something you have to worry about, parrying will be more popular than ever and it will not change the turtle meta enough (imo) so I was thinking and came up with this:
Change the parry system to be more about "phew I didn't get hit by that attack/chip damage" and less about "haha now I got you ****er!"
Heavy parries gives nothing on all characters (except for the not taking damage thing) and light parries gives:
Warden Keep his top counter as is, and give him a free light attack from any other direction.
Raider Gets a Quickgrab (Like Centurion has right now) that carries them forward drains stamina and can hit a wall (same as now)
Kensei Gets a Quickgrab (Like Centurion) works like his throw does now (dazed effect) but it cannot wallsplat and it now does 15 damage
Conqueror Gets a shield charge (same input timing as Warlord Shieldbash) this will be the "light" version of his Shieldcharge
Warlord Remove the light attack counter (or keep it if the chip damage is enough to more or less equal it out), keep Shieldbash as is only remove all heavy followups keep the light followup
Shugoki Gets a free Headbutt (same as it is now) it now does 15 damage
Peacekeeper Has deflect, gets nothing on parry
Berserker Has deflect, gets nothing on parry
Orochi Has deflect, gets nothing on parry
Shinobi Has deflect, gets nothing on parry
Lawbringer Gets shove (as it is now) or if he goes for a heavy he gets the impaling charge or if he goes for a light he gets the big unblockable top attack that dazes (but with reduced damage to be more in line with the rest)
Valkyrie Has deflect, gets nothing on parry
Nobushi Gets a quick Stab for 15 bleed damage
Centurion Keeps parry counter as it is, but he can choose if he wants to follow it up with a heavy or a light (both will only do 15 damage, or maybe less since he gets the option, so it is purely for the mixups since that is what he is supposed to be)
Any thoughts and suggestions to this? I have NOT played every character enough to claim that I know the best thing for them but I think this + the addition of proper chip damage would make things more interesting.
I understand your reasoning, but I have a feeling that just making parry not offensive at all would swing the balance too far in the offensive direction. But, it also wouldn't change the fact that a lot of characters are very easy to parry. This would make certain characters in your situation simply better because they get some free damage off of a parry, even if it's just a light parry, while others don't. Implementing the mechanic this way would unfortunately make certain characters significantly stronger than everyone else.
