Aaah, so you're one of the people whose disapproval of an interesting yet poorly executed feature helped prevent gunplay in the FC franchise from evolving past the bare-minimum of what every other FPS does huh?Originally Posted by Nitrotoluene Go to original post![]()
I did say "one of the people" not "the one person"... I am curious why you were so frustrated by it? I felt it really added an enjoyable tension to the game. Every shootout is potentially going to go sideways. It wasn't implemented as well as it could've been, but with a few simple tweaks to the system it would be alot less obtrusive. So many people want survival elements & increased difficulty in Far Cry, and from my perspective, weapon degradation is a much more interesting way of addressing those sorts of features without the tedium of just making a stamina bar or eating & drinking systems or turning the enemies into bullet sponges, all of which seem frustrating to me....
I fully agree with that.... I prefer my guns to jam over having to shoot enemies 400 times in the head (like you have to do with named enemies in the Division).Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post![]()
yeah, I couldn't play the division very long before being super annoyed by it. And the fact that you have to empty a clip into just some thug in a hoodie was just very lame. Never really go into that game much... one of my biggest purchasing regrets this gen...Originally Posted by D.DVD Go to original post
My answer was a little tongue-in-cheek, sorry.Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
But you can't accuse me of being even one of the people who prevented the "evolution of gun play" (if that's how you describe it) because I never publically expressed my annoyance with gun jamming in FC2. It was just a private thought until this discussion triggered the memory.
Why was I so frustrated by it?
Probably because I'm not a very good player so I didn't find that sort of tension enjoyable. There were already enough ways for every shoot-out to go pear-shaped without that. I wanted to just get on with the game. For those that want Far Cry 5 to be a gun jamming simulator, fine, but make it a feature that can be switched on/off or even tuned as to probability of happening (everything from zero to some maximum %).
.
The way you speak of the mechanic implies you thought of it as an ever present, every single encounter, constant and never ending struggle with jamming, which wasn't the case in my experience. Though if you've read the posts about it here, it is almost unanimously considered to be something the frequency of which should be toned down. Those of us who enjoyed it and found it to be an interesting obstacle with which to deal, feel also that it was implemented poorly in FC2. I will concede that it might better serve as a toggle-able option, so as not to alienate those who do not enjoy it, my only issue with that being that if you can just switch it off, they may not think it worth doing to begin with. Perhaps it'd best serve as a difficulty specific feature. Easy mode has no jamming, normal has balanced jamming and all the counter opportunities discussed in this thread previously, and on hard the counter-elements are more difficult & expensive to obtain perhaps?
new to the forums for FC, however i only briefly played FC2 and i must say i loved the whole gun degradation system, it made the fire fights more dynamic and allowed things to go sour fast.
it was quirky and added that little something different, it is so awesome to go in to a fight to have your gun jam in mid combat. its a shame they dropped the idea after that.
i think when it asks for the difficulty anything above the normal setting the guns degrade and eventually break. if you wanna play on lower difficulty there should be an option in gameplay settings.
Bring it back please
