I've been reading in the local paper of late of black bear attacks during the past 2 weeks around the Priest Lake area of Idaho. Joggers and gals with dogs don't seem to understand that a black bear isn't a disney pet and will attack! A woman and her 2 dogs got lucky, while the jogger did not - although he wasn't killed by the bear - his leg was lacerated by the claws, he certainly received a life lesson! Also mountain lions tend to go after things that move...joggers in central CA have met such lions during their runs...In my area we've seen lions, wolves and grizz, as well as the other colors of bears (black and brown). Seasonally....Originally Posted by mistados Go to original post
Black & brown bear attacks are rare all told. Grizzlies are the true danger as far as bear attacks go. Black bears are nothing to scoff at, and obviously you shouldn't treat them as if they're not a threat, but getting between a mama grizzly & her cubs is a death sentence. I really hope both black bear & grizzlies are in the game though. I would definitely like to see some of the "predators" take on more realistic behaviors though as opposed to simply being overtly aggressive to you 100% of the time. Wolves should be more territorial for example, rather than simply attacking exclusively when they have numbers, it would also be cool to be able to see pack behavior and if you kill the alpha the rest will flee. Things like this would add a subtle level of depth that I think would be interesting.
