Ok, well, the reason I asked you if you played past games, which, your avoidance of that question I would say only adds to the mounting evidence that you indeed have not, was because if you had, you would know that the Far Cry games do not ever take place in major metropolitan areas. A pillar of the Far Cry franchise is that they take place in rural areas of civil unrest around the globe. For fans of the franchise (something it seems you clearly are not) the fact that this game is set in America was a huge shock. I live in MT, I know how MT is. It is a predominately white, conservative-christian state. There is I think a total of ONE mosques in MT, and after a quick google search, a grand total of THREE synagogues. ALL OF WHICH, are in the state's major cities. Churches however, there are hundreds littered across the state. The trailer you mentioned with the guy getting his head bashed on the church bell, that was an actual church way out in the middle of nowhere, thats how prevalent they are (by the way, it was one of the antagonists bashing someone's head, not the protagonist, so that should give you some idea of how much respect for christianity the cult in this game has) It would make absolutely no sense to shoehorn in a mosque or synagogue into the setting of this game just for parity's sake.Originally Posted by Kaide_XIV Go to original post
The thing I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is that you think Judaism and Islamic faiths are the counter part to christianity and that an offense to one deserves equal offense to the other. Whats that verse from the bible say? Turn the other cheek? Oh I guess you prefer the contradictory passage "an eye for an eye"... Don't you think a more accurate opposing group to go after in your quest for vengeance should be satanism or atheism?
Look, the cult in this game, is using the pretense of religion, to subjugate the populace of the fictional county in which it takes place. If you are going to convert a group of people to your cause, you do it by emulating something they are familiar with(in this case, christianity) so that they believe it is their choice to join you, even though the truth of your cause is a perversion and bastardization of the actual religion, that is how cultists operate.
As for the design of the antagonists? I didn't realize that Jesus wore aviator shades or that anyone who has a beard is emulating the "Jesus look". I'd say 50% of montanan men look like that, and that percentage would only be higher in rural areas. At any rate, I obviously cannot convince you that the portrayal of the cultists in the game is not a mockery of any actual religion because you're ideologically possessed by that thought and there is no argument anyone could make that could get you to approach the situation with an open mind so I won't even try. I would ask you to answer a few questions for me though. Are you yourself a christian and have you ever played a Far Cry game before?
Simple solution: if you don't like the theme of the game, don't buy it.
This game seems to be about insane extremists and I really don't care in what location those lunatics are fought.
But since these fictitious characters are abusing christian faith in a predominantly christian part of the world, churches are obviously pretty common and logical locations in that setting, are they not?
Interesting though, that apparently christian fundamentalists are no better than those of other religions when it comes to objection and anger about perceived "mocking" and "mistreatment" of their faith. I really thought, unlike some other religions, Christianity was past being offended so easily by fictitious material. Especially since it seems loosely inspired by real events.
Sadly, it seems I was wrong...
And another on the side of logic joins the fray! haha, welcome to the forums mister... glad to see this dumpster fire of a thread didn't scare you away. This is the type of thread that makes me wish the forum had a post quota before you can actually start new threads, because this guy is definitely not contributing to any other topics. Clearly started an account specifically for this $#!+....Originally Posted by Mav99ex Go to original post
I've not mentioned Judaism or Islam in this entire thread. I suggest going back and read it. Also, this thread was never about "counter" religions....it's about having multiple religion's building of worship used in scenes of violence as opposed to just one religion's building of worship used for violence every single time. You're not understanding where I am coming from, you do not see the bias, and are trying to justify your reasoning by saying things like "the good guy was doing this....not the bad guy"....which means you completely miss the point of it all being a mockery. Here is an example NOT IN THE GAME: You can also take a religious figure and make him a hero in a movie where he does several immoral acts....it does not make it ok, or justify the movie in any way. When it comes to reason you will never understand where I am coming from....this is why you bring up Islam and Judaism and think I'm against them or you bring into the discussion if the character is good or not....you're just not getting it, and that's ok.....just two different thought processes....no one is wrong.Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
Since you are not a Christian, I'll give you a little information about Christians.....any real Christian with a beating heart and a brain....does not ever get "past" being mocked in a very public and horribly disgusting way.....nor do other religions. This might come as a shocker to you, but being made fun of and not standing up for what you believe in doesn't make you a better person......it makes you a doormat.Originally Posted by Mav99ex Go to original post
Ideologies are supposed to be respected. And I can even prove this..... if you go into most MMO games and start talking trash about a certain religion your account will be banned immediately. If you do not believe me, I suggest you test my theory out for yourself.....you'll be shocked to find out what happens. Please tell me which gaming companies support you openly mocking/bashing religions in their chat rooms. Also, I know of SEVERAL places in Europe where if you openly say (online or in person) bad things about a certain foreign religion....you will be arrested.Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
Actually, I was "Born and raised" as a Christian. And at least on paper I still am.Originally Posted by Kaide_XIV Go to original post
Most Christians "with a brain" would simply ignore such fictitious material instead of getting riled up over imagined "mockery" and "insult".
There's a reason I called you a fundamentalist before...
Hello everyone,
I'm shutting the thread, it seems that the discussion came more or less to an end by now, no point in letting it go on longer.
@Kaide_XIV: Our games are developed by a multicultural team from all around the world. The intent of our games is not to target any religion or culture. Ubisoft is at the origin of Assassin's Creed for instance where the hero, from a variety of ethnicities, also comes from a variety of places. As it has been mentioned before, Far Cry also took place in plenty of various location, without any specific focus on the Christian religion and features associated with it. This new story we're trying to tell takes place in Hope County, Montana, with a very specific group of antagonists and will thus evolve in that particular setting.
Cheers,
