When I first heard we don't play a defined character, I thought it was just going to be that we chose from one of the 3 deputies to play as, and that I had no issue with. I just feel like choosing faces & hats and every other aspect of a character whose appearance we won't actually see is pointless... but I am also not even understanding why there is cosmetic vehicle customizations, I mean, what would be the point? This seems to me like they're just putting in frivolous stuff to spend the inevitable surplus of cash on, rather than adding things that are interesting or add to gameplay, just put in some skins that are completely meaningless and change nothing. Seems like a waste of time & money from my point of view...

I can say for sure, that from Ubisofts track record, customisation options are going available through in-game purchases... I don't care for customising vehicles. As for character customisation, like you say, let me choose from 3 characters, but I don't want to have to choose their nose and eye colour lol As for the outfits, a few preset oufits like in Dying Light be cool... but like I said above I don't see the poinf you can't see your character's legs or body lol

shirts and hats are especially pointless. we sort of see the legs when we slide or switch from driver's seat to gunner in the weaponized trucks, so pants, boots and gloves would be the only clothing options that would ever be noticeable, but even then in such a trivial way that it sort of negates it's significance. Here is my perspective, had they ignored character customization and vehicle paint jobs and all that crap, they probably could've diverted that time & energy to making it so that the enemies carry randomized weapons rather than just specific types of each class. They could've made it so enemy weapons could have random attachments rather than all being stock versions, and they could've made it so we can find attachments in loot boxes or something, which would be alot more exciting to find in a loot box than a used condom that some how fetches a couple bucks at the pawn shop.

aahhhhahahaha! used condom? $2 please. Maybe they have randomised the weapons on enemies a bit, wouldn't be time consuming... the problem is did they think of doing it? Il be honest with you, the MAIN reason I'm happy with having some control over what you looking like is because of my fear of being stuck in a yellow wingsuit again

Yeah man, condoms & maxi pads were loot you would find in FC4 all the time...Also, I don't know why you were upset with being in a yellow wingsuit because it's not like you had any way of seeing that you were....

You see yourself a little more when sliding down ladders especially if looking down, I do this to try and see if anyone is below - same when swinging on a rope and parachuting you can look down and see your legs.

I know it's only a little bit and more of a blink.
If they show a demo at E3 we might get to see some of how this works with customization, could be that purchasing or somehow gaining or unlocking costumes can show a characters progress, so some might say how did you get that jacket and maybe there was a special mission you had to complete in a given time or completing the story gives a set of clothing - some like that stuff.

Sure it would be your coop partner that would see a lot more of it you will no doubt see very little unless there are cut scenes that show your clothing choices, also MP it could be good as mentioned before - mostly in solo DM mode as Teams generally stay in the same colors so we will ahve to see how that works when the release any info.

Same for SP we need more info, if you can't see a lot of the clothing I can't see the issue really, just stick with whatever they give you as default and think that is how the character is supposed to be - job done

Hmm, everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose, and I would agree some games benefit from a designed protagonist (such as The Last of Us, which would be completely different if not for Joel) but the argument you are raising here, I am afraid won't make up for the many people who disagree :/

The whole reason they are doing a customizable character for the singleplayer, I guess is because 99% people think Jason Brody was terrible and to be honest you are the first person I've seen who thought he was good :P

Personally I land somewhere in the middle. Far Cry is more of an action centered game, and needs to prioritize awesome gameplay, and can more easily pull off RPG protagonists like Fallout or Skyrim. A developed protagonist could be good too but based on the past Far Cry characters, none of them proved that designed and developed protagonists are a necessity to be honest. I think it will be great if they choose to do something different, and also I like the freedom of looking the way I want myself

I honestly don't see why people don't like Jason Brody, sure he was an a*shole but kind of a good a*shole, if that makes sense. Regardless if the majority likes character customization then it makes sense for Ubisoft to go through that path. But the characters better NOT be mute, can't stand games where your character's mute. Kinda like in Modern Warfare where Captain Price would yell at Soap and he'd say nothing.

My view against custom characters is not in defense of fleshing a defined personality for the protagonist so much as it is re-allocating those resources to something more meaningful. And the last fallout game had a fully voiced main character, but I wouldn't expect Ubisoft to go all out & pay 2 VA's to do that, not that they'd need as much dialog as Fallout 4, but still. Another reason I take issue with custom characters is because of what you mentioned at the end of your reply, the freedom to look the way you want, to me, makes zero sense in a first person game. You could play Fallout in 3rd person if you wanted (of course having that option diminished the overall polish of both perspectives, not suggesting I want that in FC) so it makes alot more sense. Not only that but the clothing & armor you wear in those games also has attributes that affect various stats & such, so customization had legitimate gameplay benefits. I just really do not understand the point of wearing a special pattern hat & shirt in FC... Unless there is more to it they're not telling us, it seems like a mis-use of resources & dev time that could've been adding something much more beneficial...

Character Customization (do NOT go to the extreme)

Ubisoft, Ubisoft, please do not ruin the customization. The clothing should be realistic things like different colours of gloves, different colours of a jacket, things like that. Nothing insane like clown masks, and pajama pants. It's not wanted. You can have a little crazy things but don't go overkill on them, keep in mind the protagonist is a deputy sheriff. Rainbow Six Siege can't be taken seriously anymore, don't do the same thing to Far Cry...🙅🏽*♂️🙅🏽*♂️🙅🏽*♂️🙅🏽*♂️🙅🏽*♂️🙅🏽*♂️🙅🏽*♂️
